Curry Hammock, Florida

We are going here for a week and would like to know:

1. Want to take Labrador Retriever. Actually, no boarding. Advisable?
2. It doesn't seem to be nearly as nice as the other camp sites, but we had no other choice---only 2 spaces available. Would you go again?

Prices great but sites seem very open to neighbors. Whats say???

Any input appreciated, Tom

We did not camp there, but went in and checked it out last year. It's very nice. You should enjoy it.

As to the dog thing, even though pets are allowed in the Park, they are strictly prohibited from being on the beach and not allowed in the water.

I'm trying to pick-up a cancellation for a few days in mid Jan 2015 at Curry Hammock. Please post your observations after your stay. We have stayed at other SP parks in the Keys and while the sites can be "close" we still enjoy the sunshine, sea breezes and the ocean.
hope you have a great trip.

Thank you for your observation and I will be glad to post CH's pro's/con's. I had read about the swimming thing (darn, did you ever try to keep a Lab out of the water?).

Curry Hammock SP is small, exceptionally well maintained and has a great beach walk, reasonably priced kayak/canoe rentals and many sites look out directly to the Atlantic. Great fishing in the north channel and wading off the beach.

In the keys, only Long Key is a nicer SP.

Definitely bring the dog. Usual leash rules apply. The only places he can't go are on the beach and in the rest room facilities.

If you don't like Curry, you are mighty hard to please.

Mike

Long Key is our favorite, Bahia Honda we stayed in when LK was not taking reservations. Curry Hammock we walked through, and, like many Florida parks, had nice sites with vegetation providing a visual screen from the neighbors. We will stay there next trip....

I haven't been able to find much about CH, especially pictures. However, what little I did see, got me to wondering if I made a mistake making reservations. Listening to you all changed my mind---would leave tomorrow if we had reservations. Reservations for second week of July. Making it a semi-reunion for the family. Thanks all.......

You can take your dog to Sombrero beach in Marathon (has to be on a leash, My Chesapeake loves to tow me around in the water there. Marathon also has a dog park. The 'unofficial' dog beach is Coco Plum in Marathon , it's a crummy swimming beach , but lots of folks take their dogs there in the morning to run and swim. Make sure to take fresh water with for your dog to drink.
