You didn't ask but I presume you'll head up I-81 to Philly. I'd rather have a root canal without anesthesia. Nothing like playing dodge ball with tractor trailers using YOU as the ball.

Take the Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline Drive as long as you can. It's slow, it costs, it's winding 2 lane - but it's a night at the opera rather than a drunken saturday night at a Del Rio Dogfight!

If you like to do wineries - Tow your Airstream TO Chateau Morrisette and do the wine tasting - then sleep it off in the Airstream! After you wake up proceed to Va. Highland Haven! (Ask me how I figured THAT out! Hic.)
DO I LIKE WINERIES?!?!?!?

Have you SEEN the biggest portion of the tour (the coast of CA?)? our entire goal (ok, well my entire goal) is to do wineries. great idea! thank you.

and thanks for the heads up re: I 81. i believe our 2008 trip to New orleans we went via skyline drive. spent an hour behind a 31 or 34 footer going 10mph. HAHA. REVENGE!! it will be us this time going 10mph.
