Years ago we used to badmouth all the canadians that came to Florida and filled up the campgrounds and put up canadian flags. Then we realized all the money they brought to us, not so bad people after all! jim

I'm a proud native Texan who lived 8 years in beautiful Colorado. Like many Texans I've returned frequently in the summer. It's drop dead beautiful, cool and dry! I don't recall ever being abused by a "native" Colorado resident. However many of the "I wasn't Born Here But I Got here As Soon As I Could" residents can be a bit cranky about non resident summer or winter visitors. My experience is that bad behavior is not limited to visitors from any one state! It takes a really long time just to get out of Texas from Austin. It just short of 1000 miles to get up in the cool air of the Colorado Rockies. As I sit here in Austin it's 102! I'm on my way next month so "heads up"!

Having been a weretexan for several years, I have learned to wear my Colorado plates quietly, and suffer the indignities of Texas ego with the tolerance afforded those of us who have managed to escape...the highways up here aren't necessarily narrower, but the bar ditches are often 800 feet deep...courtesy extends as far as you extend it.
Silverton is a beautiful area, as is Creede...we bought into Silverton...no regrets.m

texans

i resemble those remarks,,....I am not a WereTexan, however......I am an Escapee in more than name....Texas born , lived and worked for 65 years....but I have escaped and have not been to Colorado. Most every where I go., I am the only one with Texas plates and it is only my "legal domicile" for now until we find the right spot to somewhat settle down....It won't be Texas

The only real problem I've had with Texans is that most of them talk funny and I can't understand them. Also, my wife doesn't like other women calling me honey and sweetheart.

I lived in Oklahoma for a few months. I can't bring myself to tell you what they say about Texans.

I hope I did not imply any Texas bashing in my earlier posting. I certainly did not wish to convey any such ideas. I'm an outsider when I visit Colorado also so I meant no such thing. I only meant that Lake City was busy when we were there and there were many Texans looking to cool off, just as we were. We all were there for the same reason. To get out of the head back home. Only Texas being so much larger than New Jersey has a lot more heat to escape from. You know what I mean. Everything is big in Texas. And the higher elevations of Colorado are a welcome break from the eastern heat and humidity too.

Roger, NJ gets enough abuse from NY, so you'd better not take on Texas too.

Did you know before the Revolution, there were two colonies, East Jersey and West Jersey? East Jersey should have been made part of NY and W. Jersey part of Pa., but somehow a mistake seems to have been made.

Seems like all the possible campgrounds have been named. Everybody can insult a neighboring state now.

OK Gene, thanks, I get it. We have a city in New Jersey named West New York, go figure. Actually I'm a New Yorker, I just live here. I once saw a map that showed New York going all the way west to around Michigan. I've heard about East Jersey and West Jersey but didn't know they were to go to NY and Pa. Colonial history is fascinating.

I could have made that last part up.

William Franklin, illegitimate son of Ben, was governor of one of the Jerseys, or maybe both. He was a Tory during the Revolution and had to remove himself.

A nice Commercial Park

Although there are several states left to be bashed, I thought I would mention this very nice RV Park in Creede.

Mountain Views At RiversEdge RV Resort & Park - Creede, Colorado

We stayed there a few years ago. and it was very pleasant place.

It's more of a "luxury resort" catering to "big buses" with time-share/owner occupied lots than a campground IMO.

LOVE the town of Creede though...would just opt for camping somewhere else.
