It's a sneaky little thing, the merge thing. If you look at merge situations where you would expect that the major roadway would have right of way, then the sign will have the two roadways becoming one, but there are not any dashed lines on the sign's roadways.
If there is a zip situation (one on my way to work where there USED to be a yield sign and perviously one artery had to yield) the "merge" sign will have dashes in it, and there is no legal right of way for either lane.

Don’t let yourself be intimidated by semis blowing horns at you. Since they were passing you, their horn blasts were more likely a complaint about your speed (no doubt reasonable), rather than your lane choice. In my opinion, you are much safer staying in the middle lane, rather than shifting back and forth to avoid merge-ons.

Don't let yourself be intimadated. Period. As soon as you let yourself get intimidated by another driver, you can't drive defensively because you're letting the other driver control your actions. Defensive driving is all about controlling your own actions, without trying to control anyone else's actions.
Which, come to think of it, is a valuable philosophy even when you're not driving...

Has everyone noticed that all the car commercials these days are demonstrations of speed and "trick" driving? They do not highlight vehicle reliability or features as much as they demonstrate "hot rodding" and often using younger drivers.
Heck of a message....

Definitely clueless. On our recent trip south, we saw a bunch of FL-bound RVers that were clearly over-driving their brakes, even in sloppy weather. But not to worry. As they used to say in Oklahoma, Hell ain't half-full.

I prefer the middle lane and stay with the flow unless pulling the trailer.
As said previously, at least in Cali, right lane is one heck of a mess.

An apropos quote from the late sci-fi author Robert Heinlein, in the voice of his recurring character Lazarus Long: "The price of stupidity varies from nothing to death, and is determined entirely at random."

Amen to that--also my favorite author...was a huge influence on me and my kids growing up. We're all quite versatile...

Kaboomy ! Bang-bang-bangity-bank !ouch !
Can you imagine what will happen when one of those travel trailers or fifth wheel trailers blows one of it's 65 mph tires, going 80 mph? Yikes! At the very least, a very expensive repair job will be created. Stay far away from those idiots! (far, far away!)

Crazy Christmas RV Drivers
As long as they do it far, far, far away from me, I’m fine with it. I really don’t enjoy front row seats at the scene of that kind of disaster...or being an uninvolved participant dragged in at the last moment.

Crazy Christmas RV Drivers
I towed my AS from Naples to Charlotte, NC for Christmas. For portions that had to be via Interstate, I kept speed at 63, toddled along in the right lane. So relaxing—out of the mainstream crazies who were driving/towing at high speeds. And 70% of the trip was back roads, so peaceful.
Now to my points: RV tires are rarely—if ever—rated for 80 MPH. So those drivers are just reckless or stupid.
Second, I know of no state where it is legat to tow at 75 or 80 MPH. The vast majority of states have a 65 max tow speed, some (like California) enforce a 55 limit.
So....I would love to see some law enforcement of these limits.
Meanwhile, see ya on the peaceful back roads!

Read any drivers training guide and will quote the state law that highway, freeway traffic has the right a way and merging traffic must yield to traffic that is on the highway
