Wink Courtesy Parking 101 ~ Etiquette & Anecdotes

Gotta be some funny stories (and nightmares) from both the parkee and the parkor.

But first a little data please; is this s'posed to be free as in gratis?
I mean with hookups the host has a utility expense.

Also many say they do offer Courtesy Parking, but just how does one best make reservations etc.

And is breakfast in the can or up at the mansion? Grits are of course always served..right?
Is it polite to stay more than three weeks?

If it storms bad can we come in the main house for the night?

(Glad you asked, I've been curious myself)

I would imagine that, were I the host, that so long as everything were clean afterwards that any "costs" are more than forgiven by the pleasure of sheltering the traveler. That seems as old as humanity, offering hospitality. And with that, [3] nights.

We have had courtesy parking for 4 or 5 years now and only one Airstreamer has taken advantage of it. Could it be that we're 13 miles from Wimberley, TX and 11 miles from Blanco, TX? Or put another way - because we're remote from the big cities? We have 30 amp & water, but no dump.

Reservations? An email a week or so in advance is sufficient for me, to make sure we're not going to be out of pocket.

Cost or Fee? None to courteous Airstreamer's.
Length of Stay? Like fish, 3 to 4 days is usually a good measure. That's also more than enough time to take in all the local sights.

Welcome in the house during a severe thunder storm? I'd think so.

Never had a problem

We have never had a problem with any of the several folks from here that have courtesy parked. We have had a great time with all of them. We usually get a phone call or an email or PM from those who would like to stop and use our courtesy parking. We seem to hit it off with everyone and usually plan to get together for at least a meal or two. Sometimes at the fire ring in our backyard and everyone just pitches in. ....Kind of like a potluck. Length of stay kind of depends on the situation. We are flexible since we are retired. Stay flexible and enjoy the company. We have varied form overnight to over a week and have really had fun doing the driveway rallies! Stop in and visit if you get our direction!!!

This is interesting hearing from those with experience on either side of the curtesy parking thing. I have never used it, and I don't have room to offer it.
What is the most folks you've had at one time, what is the longest folks have stayed? Just curious.
Keep your experiences coming!

Courtesy Parking in North Dakota and Montana

We will be traveling late June to North Dakota, heading to Theodore Roosevelt NP and then onto Glacier NP via Hwy 2. Does anyone have courtesy parking or suggestions? Thank you!

We have been both parkers and parkees at different times.
When we were the parkers, the longest we (dog and I) stayed was 2 days, and that was because we had evacuated for a hurricane. I try not to stay more than overnight, or at most a couple of days. If I were parking because of problems with trailer or tow vehicle, I would make sure I kept the parkee advised as to progress made on the situation, and take them to dinner at the end of my stay as a thank you.
We have been parkees a couple of times, once overnight, and once for several days. Each time the parkers were not a problem, and left the place as neat as they found it.

We are also far off the beaten path here in Chandler, Oklahoma. Did have "ThecatsandI" stay here once and it was very pleasant. Got to actually see a big new Airstream, which led to our purchase of the 31ft Sovereign. Hey, it's not new, but it's LONG. Michelle even got to come in the house to eat and visit the pets. We have lots of pets. We are right on old Route 66, so come on by if you're out this way and rest up for a while.

Well, I hate to see lobster go to waste! How about packing some up and putting it on a plane to Vancouver?!

Finding courtesy parking !!

One of the problems in finding courtesy parking is that the list of people is in alphabetical order and not by location. So it is difficult to find one in the the area you are traveling. The forum should list courtesy parking by State.

I never have tried to search for locations, so this is good to know. Is the map of members still active (although maybe not exact)? I'll have to check; it worked last year some time as I recall.

We will traveling up I-81 through Virginia to Connecticut, and I hadn't thought about courtesy parking. We have stayed at Wal-Marts, but not in summertime (no A/C). Maybe I should investigate!

...
Well, the map is available, but I cannot see any member locations on it. It is a link on the main forums page (http://www.airforums.com/forums/vbgooglemap.php), but maybe it's broken. Or shut off due to privacy concerns...

Of course, maybe it's my 65,533 unread messages that are causing my problem...
