Costanoa - KOA Near Half Moon Bay California
It was beautiful in the bay area this weekend, so we decided to head over to the ocean. Half Moon Bay State Beach was sold out (as it almost always is) so we went to the KOA at Costanoa, which is about 20 miles south of Half Moon Bay on highway 1. Cost was about $50. For those of you who don't know the area, this is about 45 miles south of San Francisco right on the ocean.
We had a nice weekend there. The property was clean, we were in one of the back-in sites which had full hookups and plenty of privacy. Many of the sites had ocean views. The bathroom and shower facilities were above average and had sauna's inside in addition to hot showers. There are also shared fire pits for the kids to roast marshmallows.
It was totally silent at night - we slept perfectly.
The campground is on the same property as the Costanoa lodge and spa - so you have access to the hotel, restaurant etc - everything except for the hotel's hot tubs.
Lots of folks with friendly dogs (we brought our Lab) - and plenty of space for them to play. There are walking trails to the beach. There were three other airstreams there, which was nice - usually we are the only one - and also lots of the very expensive diesel pusher type RV's - I got the idea this was a fairly high end crowd.
Very close nearby is Ano Nuevo marine reserve, where you can see gigantic elephant seals on the beach, and Pelican point light house, which has great tide pools to expore and is dog friendly. There is very good food at Duarte's tavern in Pescadero about 10 miles North, and tons of excellent choices in Half Moon Bay.
All in all it was a well run park in a lovely location - we were very satisfied - a nice place to stay.
