Clearwater, Fla. Recommendations
Hello,
I'm starting to plan a trip and ran into a snag. I'm looking for recommendations for a campground near or in Clearwater, Fla. (I have never been there). I intend to be in the Clearwater area for 2 nights in June. Public or private makes no difference to me, just want electric, water and dump and a nice place to come back to at night after sightseeing during the day. So if you have stayed at a place that might work for me, please let me know.
Thank you.

Not Clearwater but the next town south, Largo. Lee's Travel Park on Belcher Road. When I bought my Airstream it was in that park. It seemed like a real nice place, nice clubhouse, nice people. I'd put it on the consideration list.

DeSoto is a Pinelles County park located just south of St Pete so not terribly far from Clearwater although with traffic and bridges, probably a 30 minute drive. Still one of my favorite parks in Florida and even if it shows full they always hold back sites to release on Friday morning.

I agree Ft. Desoto is a very nice park. Next time I'm back that way it'll be Ft. Desoto or nothing. But Ft Desoto to Clearwater is an hour drive, by my recollection and by google maps, in the best of conditions. Pinellas County is the most densely populated county in Florida and the traffic patterns are a testament to poor planning. Driving north/south in the county is something a prudent person avoids.

The closest park we've stayed at is and could recommend is Dunedin RV. We are there quite often as we have business in the area. You can get to Clearwater via Alt 19 in just a few minutes. Ft. Desoto is beautiful but farther away and 19 usually has quite a bit of traffic.

Thanks everyone for letting me in on your favorite places to stay in and around Clearwater.
This really helps a lot.

We have been multi-year visitors and now winter residents of the Clearwater area. We have used: Sherwood Forest, Caldesse, and Bay Aire on Alt 19 North in Palm Harbor. Very close to Clearwater and lots of things to do within 20 miles.

There is only one choice. Ft DeSoto. Sites go very fast but you can reserve 6 months ahead so get on it ASAP. That time of the year during the week you may get in.
Look at the map and try for one of the west facing water front sites. Great sunsets. North beach has been voted best in the country.
