There aren't any RV parks very close to the Museum of Science & Industry. It is on the South Side of Chicago (the baddest part of town if you're old enough to remember that song) Anyhow, I highly recommend camping at the Indiana Dunes State Park and commuting the hour or so to the Museum. Sadly, the Museum of Science & Industry isn't within walking distance of the city of Chicago. You would have to drive about 10-15 minutes to go to the city. The Indiana Dunes SP has the South Shore train that runs to Chicago right next to the park. Last time I was at the SP, I met a couple who were members here, who needed to go downtown & I advised them to take the train. It's an easy way to go to the city! The Indiana Dunes SP is a really nice park that sits behind a dune. You can walk to the beach, or hike trails. It's open year round. The Museum is a great place to visit. So is the Field Museum of Natural History & the Aquarium! Have a great time!

There is also a State Beach park in Zion,IL about 50 miles north of the loop. There is a train out of there that would drop you close to the museum. There is also Buffalo state park on the river just south of Algonquin. It is close to Interstate 80, which you could take 50 miles to the museum. There are lots of state parks you can look at on ReserveAmerica that are close to Chicago.

There is a great forest preserve on the west side, but it near the train. It is the Paul Wolff Campground, part of the Kane County Preserve District. We stayed there this summer and it was great. They don't take reservations and cash or check only. The link is kaneforest.com
