Thumbs down Check Tire Pressure (2 tires) = $44.50 (charge removed)

Watch out...While having 1 axle wheel bearing packed at Camping World I asked them to check the tire pressure on both tires before releasing the trailer. That labor cost for checking tire pressure was $44.50!

Is that because the minimum they can charge for any job is 30 minutes? That's ridiculous and there's no way I would have paid that.

They are a rip-off, no doubt. I watched the "techs" at work one time (the LAST time) where, while waiting for my 11.00 am appointment (it was 2.00 pm, by then), and noticed the guy using a Fluke vom, like I have, troubleshooting an electrical problem. He had it on the wrong setting for the AC circuit he was trying to trace! We bailed.

That was an unfortunate statement.

I check my own air pressure all the time. In fact I generally re-check the air pressure after I get a vehicle back from a tire shop or from having a service that includes tire rotation, because I find that lots of wrench-apes don't bother to check the tag on the door and just set every tire they touch to some default pressure, regardless of how that relates to the recommendation for the vehicle.

That said, I would expect for any service that involves removing and re-installing the wheel that the tech would check tire pressure because it's part of making sure the assembly is set up properly for the road. Even if they're just going to set a pressure other than what I want it to be, I expect them to check it as part of the job.

This is rather uncalled for and very RUDE!. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

I have had tire shops check my pressure when getting work done and It has nothing to do with being lazy..

Call the camping world where you had the work done at and talk to the manager. Be courteous and nice and say it seems ridiculous that they charge $40 to put a pressure gage on a tire that takes a few seconds.

If this gets you no where inform that manager you will be calling corporate.

I always start of nice. 99% of the time this is how you get it resolved. But if it doesn't I can get really mean... And it aways gets fixed then.

That was just plain rude and uncalled for. You owe the OP an apology.

Ditto, that's a kick not deserved. In twenty years on the road, I've never had a tire store refuse an "air check". They (except Camping World) are most happy to do it, free.

Had this been me I would have questioned the charge at the time of payment. Like any other business CW exists to provide a service for profit. However, this philosophy is balanced on fair market value, or at least the perception there of. Lagniappe is good for business and in cases like this it goes along way towards customer satisfaction. To those of us not privy to the details the charge seems excessive, but ripping in the service provider without knowing the facts is not appropriate.

Likewise, where are our manners? Disrespecting the original poster for choosing CW to perform this work, or failing to address this charge,or not checking his own air pressure isn't the way of this forum.

Pecos, did you discuss this with the service provider?

This is bizarre - the wheels are already off - when we get our bearings repacked this is a standard part of the service - which also includes checking the tires for wear, checking and adjusting the brakes ..... I think someone screwed up ..... maybe a new employee???

I find it interesting that a business working on your running gear wouldn't already have checked tire pressures in all the tires. Never know, there could have be a sale of a new tire there if they had checked the tires.

My opinion is this: checking for proper inflation is like getting a napkin with dinner. Usually you get one, sometimes you have to ask for one, but they never directly charge you for it, it's part of the service provided.

this goes along with charging to dispose of the old oil when getting a oil change. Also to clean the area after. Also to carry your own bag and store it when traveling.
Be prepared for additional charges on just any service you might require.

In the past, charges were built in; but now they are "add ons"

Many years ago, I took my aunt's car to a shop to have the water pump replaced. The shop owner looked it up in the book and quoted me a price. WHen I returned to pick the car up, he tried to charge me an extra $175 to remove and reinstall the timing belt. The belt itself was new. When I tried to explain to him that the timing belt r&r was a part of the job, and thus was factored into the book rate for the job, he tried to sucker me by telling me that the timing was off at the belt, and was therefore a separate job. I offered to leave the car and let my attorney settle the issue, and he angrily dropped the charge.

I know for a fact that I cost him thousands of dollars of business in the few years after that by steering friends and family away from his shop. I'd always been happy with his service before, and bought a lot of tires from him as well.

Charging for checking the tire pressure, especially when the trailer is already in the shop, is ludicrous. I'd complain to the headquarters, and complain loudly.

I owned a large customer oriented business for 30 years and never would have considered what CW seems to be doing. They came from a "feel good" company to a beancounter-run, like most most big boxes. I'll stick with the locals.
