Like anything else you need to be an intelligent shopper and do your research. While CW with discount often has some good deals, you have to shop wisely. I tend to buy infrequently from them and have had a President's Club card when it made economic sense due to some larger purchases.

Same rule of thumb goes for Costco and Sam's Club. You need to do your due diligence on pricing. In some cases it may be more costly to use either of these entities. I'm not the quantity buyer as I used to be in the past, but I've gotten some unique items from Costco at great pricing. One of the values is they offer Mobil 1 usually once or twice a year with a $10 off coupon which gets my cost down to $24 or less for 6 quarts. My Turbo Tax software in the spring always goes on sale for $10 less than other outlets. A gallon of milk is $2.08 which is below anyone here in town. So we pick some things and pass on others.

My coffee habit makes Costco pay off for me. The store near me has a roaster and the Colombia Supremo beans are enough cheaper than other readily available sources to cover the cost of a basic membership with a year's worth of coffee beans.

Fuel is relatively inexpensive, certain other products are good quality and price. Dog treats, Tillamook sharp cheddar, wines, toilet paper, etc. they've had competitive offerings on the last few sets of tires for the cars as well.
