Cheapest source of propane refills?

Guys and gals,

Just wondering what you've found to be the cheapest/best source of propane refills while full-time traveling out on the road. I know Costco and Flying J will do it. We haven't started full-timing yet, but we are close.

We have two 40-gal tanks that we'll need to fill every now and then.

Thanks.

Tractor Supply charges by the gallon. Very economical compared to other sources locally.

Right now, in East Texas, Tractor Supply is the most economical place to get bottles filled. Tractor Supply actually measures how many gallons goes into the tank, rather than an educated guess.

Don't know how widespread the Tractor Supply distribution net is.

The Camping World in Gulf Breeze FL, on a particular day of the week runs a special low price for propane refills. I found it quite a bit cheaper than the other local businesses in the area.

Sure they're not 40-pound cylinders? 40-gallon cylinders would weigh over 150 pounds apiece when full.

Anyway, I can't say whether they're the cheapest, but I routinely get my propane at U-Haul. They sell by the gallon, but have a scale set up next to the pump to weigh the cylinders, so they can accurately refill partially-empty cylinders as well.

Use either Costco or U-Haul. Both fairly priced...service is about the same (you sometimes have to hunt down the guys who fill them). Costco is a LOT busier in the propane business, at least where I live.

I usually get ours refilled at our local Camping World. As Good Sam members, we get 25% off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Our Tractor Supply is closer to us.... Will check their price.

The Camping World suggestion is what we have found to be least cost due to GS discount. In the past U-haul has been a good source, but waiting in line when they are busy is a pain. Have not checked with Tractor Supply, but that may be a viable solution. Thanks for the suggestion. Pat

Since I live in the country, I have a TS nearby, will see how they measure up to my local Mom and Pop. If they're anywhere in the ballpark, Mom and Pop will still get my business.

My vote goes to Pilot flying J. That are usually cheapest and easiest..... easiest being the determining factor!
With that being said, any place in the Arizona desert os quite cheap!
I think I paid $12 to fill my #40 bottles as we left a couple weeks ago.

Thumbs up

Local CW is 1mi away...plus they charge by amount filled not by the size of the bottle.
Sr. Tues takes a little off too.

Out west Tractor Supply always has the best prices. We don't buy anything at Camping World.

Just a note with a Canadian perspective. Went to our local co-op to fill a #30 tank. The bill was $33.00! Yikes, I sure do miss being in the states!

I've found Co-Op to be very expensive when I've filled up in Calgary. I usually try to find a Costco - two recent fill-ups near San Diego cost about $12 including tax. Costco in Canada is similar save for exchange rate fluctuations.
