In the southeast, Tractor Supply is usually the cheapest along with Costco. Be aware that not all TS location have propane, though.

NW Phoenix Costco (near I-17 & Yorkshire):
Propane = $1.74/gal on 04/13/16 (sold per gallon with no minimum charge)
Other Phoenix propane stations charge $2.00 to $3.99/gal; average = $3.25/gal.

Cheapest is almost always getting your cylinder refilled rather than an exchange. Pretty easy to find the propane companies where ever you are using google or Allstays app or something similar.

Wow!!! Just checked with my nearby Tractor Supply. Their price is $1.99/gal. No minimum. Really beats CW's price..... $3.49/gal!!!!!
I know where I'm going next time!

Some of us don't have cylinders, but an onboard propane tank....clear empty is only about a 4.3 gallon fill.

Where ever you are, try a google search for "cheapest propane near me" (on Android phone, say "OK Google..." from start screen)
don't know if there is a Gas Buddy style list for propane but I used that in San Bernadino, CA area and found a Shell station way cheaper than anyone for miles around.
Other than that, I have found U-Haul will be somewhere close to the best price, at least a lot cheaper than mom and pop.

Around here, N. Mississippi, Tractor Supply is always the cheapest by far. Also at the TS I frequent the folks are very friendly and give prompt service at the LP fill station.

Wow, things must be expensive in Saskatchewan.
Last fall I had my 30 pounder filled for $18 at Kent Farm in Blenheim Ontario.

The local small mom/pop propane dealer in Marble Falls, TX (Bill Smith Butane) charged me $12 to fill my empty 30# bottle. (He weighed it, but it was completely empty when I took it in.)
The big local propane dealer (Pinnacle) wanted $19 even tho' I'm their regular "keep full" service customer at my house (500 gallon tank). I was disappointed they don't care how much they put in it..... it's a flat $19 for a 30# bottle.
