I purchased my last propane from an RV park near Branson, MO last October and their price per gallon was the same back in Nixa. In early 2014 in our area their was a propane shortage for some reason and the prices skyrocketed but luckily I didn't need to refill.

We refill one tank every two weeks so we keep an eye out for the lowest price. When we arrived in Quartzite we found it for $2 a gallon. The previous price paid was $3.50! I filled all three of my tanks. We carry a 20# tank for cooking outside.

Anyway, I can't say whether they're the cheapest, but I routinely get my propane at U-Haul. They sell by the gallon, but have a scale set up next to the pump to weigh the cylinders, so they can accurately refill partially-empty cylinders as well.
Oops - yeah, 40-pound, not gallon. Thanks for catching that.

We always try to avoid UHaul, whose prices are high and sometimes have a $20 minimum charge.

Always ask if there is a minimum charge, I have found...once paying $20 for about 3 gallons of propane...I didn't ask if there was a minimum charge, and they didn't tell me until I went into the office to pay, and saw the sign on the wall.

The cheapest places we have found for propane are country places like Hicksgas, Amerigas, Ferrellgas.

If you drive back roads at all, these are easy to find, and the AllStays app also shows you were many propane sources are.

In my area Blossom Gas seems to have the best prices.

I usually fill at our local Ace Hardware. If my 20 lbs cylinders are empty, it usually costs about $16 per cylinder. Occasionally, the Co-Op in Sheridan puts propane on sale for $2 per gallon. I try to fill all the cylinders I own then.

In the southeast, Tractor Supply is usually the cheapest along with Costco. Be aware that not all TS location have propane, though.

NW Phoenix Costco (near I-17 & Yorkshire):

Propane = $1.74/gal on 04/13/16 (sold per gallon with no minimum charge)

Other Phoenix propane stations charge $2.00 to $3.99/gal; average = $3.25/gal.

Cheapest is almost always getting your cylinder refilled rather than an exchange. Pretty easy to find the propane companies where ever you are using google or Allstays app or something similar.

Some of us don't have cylinders, but an onboard propane tank....clear empty is only about a 4.3 gallon fill.

Where ever you are, try a google search for "cheapest propane near me" (on Android phone, say "OK Google..." from start screen)
don't know if there is a Gas Buddy style list for propane but I used that in San Bernadino, CA area and found a Shell station way cheaper than anyone for miles around.
Other than that, I have found U-Haul will be somewhere close to the best price, at least a lot cheaper than mom and pop.

Around here, N. Mississippi, Tractor Supply is always the cheapest by far. Also at the TS I frequent the folks are very friendly and give prompt service at the LP fill station.

Wow, things must be expensive in Saskatchewan.
Last fall I had my 30 pounder filled for $18 at Kent Farm in Blenheim Ontario.
