Sounds like a great idea. Charleston is one of our favorite places except for the problem with finding reasonably priced lodging close to downtown. Parking is very difficult downtown unless you have lodging there. Now that we have a trailer, I was wondering what we would do since I have assumed all CG's will be far away.

Where would there be space for a CG? The name indicates along the water which would be the only places I can remember where there may be some space. Access is important as there are a lot of RV unfriendly streets in Charleston.

I haven't a clue when we'll be back in Charleston, but certainly we would be looking to staying with you.

Good luck. I'm sure there will be plenty of business to keep you solvent.

Gene

Great idea! Charleston has been on our list of destinations for years. As others have said...keep us posted! Do you have a location yet...can you post it for us to mapquest. Thanks!

Agree, sounds like a new concept and something that just might work. We live across the bridge in Mt. Pleasant.

Some questions do come to mind:
*Where is the property located (vacant spots in Chs big enough to do such a thing are so limited I am interested to know where you found a big enough piece of dirt)?
*What sort of hook ups are you planning?
*How much space/how many trailers could be there at once?
*Do you need people to show up at city planning meetings in your support?
*What is the current feedback from the city as to viability of such a project?
*Is the property accessible with longer trailers (I know the streets well and had to navigate a 31' through a few years back--it was a bit hairy)?

Interested very much in your project--don't hesitate to give me a shout if I can help you.
Also interesting (from reading the previous replies to this post) how other forum members like Charleston.

Sheesh that's a tough question. Charleston, SC is one of the most historically preserved cities in the world. This is great, but it also means strict regulations. We have the "Board of Architectural Review" or B.A.R. and they are no joke. If you wanna put a gutter on your house or paint a shutter you need their permission.
A Trailer/RV park is crazy talk around here, but not so crazy when your discussing a piece of American History. Our plea to the City of Charleston is based around what Mr. Byam did for traveling and what he can still do for a town like Charleston. If we get our approvals it is because the city understands what Wally contributed to our culture. Our permit needs to serve Airstream Campers above all else.
I hope we can all join in the fun, but the project would not even be feasible in this city if it were not for Airstream.

We spend two months in Charleston every year visiiting our son who is in medical residency at MUSC. An Airstream park anywhere near Charleston would be great. If we can write any letters of support or do anything to assist, let us know.

We are about 1 1/2 hours away, love Charleston, belong to WBCCI SC Coastal Unit and are always looking for rally sites.
This would be great if you will have room for our rallies.

We love Charleston. We used to rent a house on Edisto Beach when the kids were young. Man I would love to go back to that neck of the woods. I would be interested.

They might end up like that campground on HH that doesn't allow anything over 5 years old or popups...must maintain "the standards"

On our way to Florida this fall we drove on by Charleston as the weather was a bit rainy and cold. Being unfamiliar with the area we chose to skip the rv parks there and headed for Flagler Beach, FL. With an Airstream park in Charleston we would surely stop.
