Thumbs up Central CA coast treasure

We are finishing up a week at El Chorro Regional Park on Hwy 1 between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. The nightly rate is $31.00 with full hookups. The sites are large with lots of privacy and vegetation. There is an adjoining golf course and day-use park with a botanical garden and hiking trails. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's run by San Luis Obispo County. Sites can be reserved 30 days in advance. It's a real gem.

While your in the area head down to Arroyo Grande and go up to Lopez Lake about 10 miles east of downtown AG.

There you will find The Lopez Lake county park.

It has full hook up sites, Hiking trails, water park, zoo, boat rentals, snack bar, wind surfing even wild turkeys roaming around. If you liked El Chorro you'll love Lopez.

BTW Downtown AG has great food places.

Also check out the Pismo Coast Village RV Park in Pismo Beach.

While there head into the hart of Downtown PB and crab a Bread Bowl of Clam Chowder at the Splash Cafe, YUM !

Its no secret ! Just off the radar to most people looking for state parks, thank goodness.

Besides we used to live in SLO Co., so ... local knowledge. Nanner, Nanner.

Thanks for the tip! We're not doing anything in February. I think this may be it!

Treasures abound

Treasures Yes.

Next to the campground is Dairy Creek County Golf Course. The 12th green serves as an unintended bocce ball court. No one seems to mind......Not even the dozen wild turkeys in the photo.

The Botanical Garden gives a great display of Mediterranean flowering plants.

Great biking along HWY 1 to Morro Bay, Cayucos, Los Osos and SLO.

El Chorro often has available sites in the summer when other campgrounds are full in Pismo Beach, Morro Bay and Los Osos. Additionally there is a large overflow area without hookups if the campground is full. Shower available.

June, July and August can often be foggy along the coast but El Chorro is 5 miles inland and is often sunny and clear.

Rancho EL Chorro Regional Campground is not spectacular but is wonderful and close to the city of San Luis Obispo.

We have found that Regional (county) campgrounds in California can often be conveniently close to cities but in a world of their own.
