Capitol Reef National Park is capital!

Have been visiting Capitol Reef National Park the past few days. Both it, and the route I took through Utah getting here are incredible. Stayed two nights at the Fruita Campground in the park, but have since gone to a nearby private park for the hookups. Have been spoiled by the full hookup state campgrounds in Texas and New Mexico for $12-20. The Fruita Campground is $10 a night with no hookups. Guess a lot of the national parks are the same.

Hope to stop by Zion, but it will be hard to beat Capitol Reef.

Nice pictures. Thanx for sharing. We, too, have become accustomed to full hook-ups. We consider it "primitive Camping" if we don't have cable and wifi.

Get yourself a satalite dish and a Verizon internet card and you will never be "primitive" again.

I have a Verizon evdo internet card, but there was no access in Capitol Reef Park. You can drive 20 miles to the town of Bicknell and get rev a access. The commercial rv park I'm staying at is a little short of Bicknell, but the park provides free wi-fi.

It is rare for the Verizon card not to work, but it happens occasionally.

I was just at Capitol reef a few nights ago after leaving Bryce. We frequent Arches but this was our first stay at Capitol reef. I'm very impressed with the campground. $10 is a little less then most national parks charge. The campground offers a free dump station and water on site so you don't have to worry about being too conservative with showers after a long hike. The host had a 1987 25' airstream. We'll be planning a little longer stay next time.

I loved the campground, but after two days my small solar panel batteries were depleted, my electronics needed recharging, needed to transfer pictures to my hard drive, etc. Have learned a lot on what I need to get to go without hookups longer...mainly a generator.

It is a beautiful area! Maria and I intentionally drove through the park last fall on our automobile trip to Nevada and back, including through the campground.

One question we had was whether we'd be able to fit into Fruita campground with our 30'. It looked like there were serveral sites where we could back up right to the barrier (i.e., hanging well over at the back).

You can see in my picture that there is some room to spare in my 27' Airstream. I was in the C loop, the last one you come to.
