Canada Day Long Weekend in Jasper
My family and I were in Jasper National Park for the Canada Day long weekend which ran from Thursday, July 1 - Sunday July 4. We were lucky to find a spot at Whistlers campground on such short notice (3 weeks). The staff were also able to switch us from a non-firepit site to one with a firepit for two of the three nights. Jasper is like Banff only really laid back and not nearly so commercial. There are great little bakeries, shops, parks, etc. We went on a really nice 5km hike up to the Valley of the 5 Lakes, did a nice bike ride and met up with a family from Whiterock, BC., of four who have been travelling for 5 months in their 27' Safari.
We were fortunate enough to be in Jaspen town for the firework display on the 1st. For a small town they did a great job of the fireworks. We were sitting maybe 30m away from the launch site and really enjoyed a loud and bright fireworks show.
The weekend was great, the weather was decent and we got to see some animals roaming around the park and on the highway.
As always I highly recommend a visit to Jasper. Just make sure you book well in advance, especially for the weekends.
