Campsite reviews (Assateague-Williamsbug KOA)

First let me say if you have not yet experienced Assateague State Park, put it on your bucket list! (reserve a year in advance if your lucky) The sunrise over the Atlantic was epic, chasing crabs on the beach after dark, Atlantic wasn't too cold. The park and employees were 4 stars. The bathrooms get an "F"...nasty... Horses running wild and the smell of salt air...just awesome. Three days was no where near enough time. It's just 15 minutes from Ocean City but we found 8 minutes away a place called Mystic Harbor...a small fishing harbor with a bunch of great sea food restaurants. We ate at the Captain's Galley 2 and had the best baked crab cakes I have ever consumed!!!

Can not wait to go back and spend more time there, worth the drive. Tips: 1. Bugs can be ferocious if the wind is blowing towards the sea. Bring the industrial bug and fly spray. 2. If the horses (ponies) get too cozy or close a quick squirt from a water gun sends the message, move on...they were amazing...grazing outside our window at 3 in the morning and if they have an itch... they scratch it by rubbing against your camper or Airstream!

Then we moved on to the Williamsburg KOA in Virginia. 4 star all the way! We had a nice site and made friends with our neighbor ... Canadian Country Singer Robyn Scott and her family! She played guitar and sang at our campfire...just sweet and awesome, such a great family!

The Sea2Sea bike crew stayed at the camp ground, they were biking across the USA to bring attention to wounded soldiers and their medical needs. They had a British gent who was their traveling photographer. He knocked on our door and wanted to know if he could shoot some interior shots of us in our Airstream...after all nothing screams America like Airstream. We will end up on their site and in his blog. He was very warm and friendly and very interested in the American lifestyle and our Airstream!

Then there was the tornado that missed us by about a mile...wild storms...100's of thousands lost power out this way but our KOA was just fine.. May not go go back there...been there and done that...but Assateague...I can't rave loud enough...just amazing! I will download some pics and add to this post soon...

So glad to hear about Asseteague - we have family in Ocean City but have never camped there - will have to put this on "the list"

Even though Assateaque is only 15 miles from our home it is one of my favorite places to camp especially in the spring and fall but I also go there in the winter and summer. Whether on the bay or the ocean side the views are great.
