James Island County Park

James Island County Park is probably one of the nicest campgrounds we've stayed at. It's convenient to Charleston. The park has alot of things to do there.........and the campground is very nice. I'd highly recommend it.

We have spent time at Edisto Beach State Park -- south of Charleston and is very nice -- great beaches. You may also want to check out Jamestown County Park in Charleston -- wonderful and close to the city. They have a web site.

Ditto...James Island is great and very convenient, Edisto is also great, but further away...either are very enjoyable.
You will want to be at the beach campground if you go to Edisto.

While you are there drive to Hollywood SC to the Old Fire House for dinner. Don't look around when you get there just go in and eat.

If it is on the menu that night have the Iowa Pork Chop. Can't say what it will be because it is how ever the chief wants to cook it but it will be good.

Edisto is not the most congested place you will ever go to. My picture of the beach

And another vote for Edisto Beach SP. If you like to walk on the beach, like shells and to perhaps view dolphins early in the am and late in the day---this is the place.

If you have never tried Shrimp & Grits, you can get it in Charleston and it is to-die-for. Sounds strange, but it is one of the most delicious concoctions ever created.

Have a great trip!

James Island has the nicest off-leash dog park I have ever seen. It is huge, on a pond and scenic.
They have a nice drive-thru Christmas light display and festival.
For the summer they have a water park.
Good location for sight-seeing in the city of Charleston.

Thanks to everone who replied! Did stumble upon the James Island County park web site and it looks great. We will probably try to stay there. Main reason for going to Charleston is to look at Folbot factory...small operation, but they make one of the best foldable kayaks on the market. It is just a 20 min ride from the James Island County park.

Thanks again to everyone for their help.

A good alternative to James Island is Oak Plantation Campground. We stay there for several weeks each year visiting relatives and find them convenient to the city, very clean, and reasonably priced. You're a short bike ride from a new Publix supermarket also a plus. Large park with many different types of camping sites.
