Camping suggestions near Cleveland, OH?

Hello fellow Airstreamers,
Does anyone have suggestions of a nice place to camp for a couple of weekdays near Cleveland, OH the week following Labor Day? Trying to combine a business trip with some camping, and so far haven't found any parks or campgrounds very close to town.
Thanks for any recommendations or advice on places to avoid...

Hi!
You are welcome to visit our driveway. We offer courtesy parking. Full hookups. We are about 30 min. from Cleveland's center, 20 min. from Cleveland Hopkins International. PM me and I will give you our address.

Lou

We have some family in Cleveland and have been mystified as why there is a void of campgrounds in the vicinity. Lou's offer may be your best option. We have stayed at the American Wilderness Campground and would go back, but it is nearly a 45 minute commute to Cleveland.

Koa in Streetsboro, a campground used to be a jelly stone between Aurora and Mantua on rt 82. Koa is just off the interstate., and two south of Kent on rt 43 if you are heading to the football hall of fame in Canton. None of these are rally close in. Jim

We stayed at West Branch State Park when we were attending a wedding just south of Cleveland. Great campground, other than the drive to Cleveland!

Campground near Cleveland

We have used the Portage Lakes State Park Campground on several occasions and find it to be a beautiful location. Albeit 45 minutes South of Cleveland. Portage Lakes is close to Akron and the Firestone Country Club. Close to the old blimp hangar at Akron/Canton airport. There is even a Camping World store nearby. There are only a hand full of sites with electricity and be sure to arrive with fresh water. The water in the campground always seem to have rust in it.

We are

the closest and friendliest campground nearest to Cleveland. We have had lots of fun hosting folks and their Airstreams traveling through. Since we are right off of I480 it makes it very convenient to Cleveland. And we are only a short way from Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Lots to see and do around this part of Ohio.
@Silver Goose...the next time you come to Cleveland to visit family, please feel free to camp here. American Wilderness CG that you stayed at is about 10 min. from us, but we have way more fun.

All of the above are great. Not many option close since Brunswick Lake Closed.
I LOVE East Harbor State Park. It's an hour West of Cleveland.
It will be sold out on the holiday weekend though and you have to take three nights on holidays.

Findley State Park is an option. Maybe 40 minutes south west of Cleveland.

FYI You can reserve state parks online a year in advance.

Findley SP

Findley SP is a great park!
We are 15 min. east of there, and closer to Cleveland. If you look up LaGrange, OH you can spot us on a map. We are close to I-480, the OH Turnpike and I-71. The heart of all of the major transportation routes it seems. Although our little village is very rural still.

We have found West Branch to be a great park, although it is se of Cleveland by about 45 min.
If you decide to come to this area, come visit.

I wish I'd known about you back in April. Apparently very few campgrounds in Ohio open before April 15, and we were visiting for a wedding on April 13!

Thank you all for the great suggestions. We've pretty much decided that this time mixing business and pleasure won't work due to other considerations, but now I want to schedule another trip east just so we can meet Larry and Lou. They sound like wonderful hosts!
Looking forward to reserving that driveway spot one day--Eileen

I try

We put that signature line on our posts hoping to let folks coming through OH that we are available. And our daughter (Airbiscuit on the forums) lives across the street. So even if we are not here...i.e. out camping...she can come over and hook ya' up! Stop by the next time you are headed through northern OH! We'd love to visit!

It seems like a number of Airstreams (or Argosys!) happen to gravitate to Lou and Larry's when just one shows up. I don't know what the deal is...

I have camped at the Cuyahoga Fairgrounds located at 164 Eastland Road, Berea Ohio telephone 440-243-0090. They have about 25 sites with electric, water, and sewer in a grassy area in the campground. It is not fancy, but it is close to Cleveland and very quiet. We have stayed there several times, and it is very reasonable, last time there I paid 25 a night.

Regards,

Reganzo
