Camping on Bull Shoals Lake

Anyone ever camped down on Bull Shoals Lake? We are looking at going down there in a few weeks. We like NFS campgrounds and/or Corp Campgrounds. We like peace and quiet, privacy, shade, and views. (Not much to ask! Ha)
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Jeff

We haven't camped there yet, but it is on our to do list. I have heard that it's very nice, but I suspect it is popular and maybe a little busy?

Sorry. I was referring to the state park located just below the dam.

The state park at Bull Shoals is pretty nice, but only a small section provides full service.

And those few sites are reserved weeks in advance.

Make your reservations soon.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies! If we get a hook up that's fine, if we don't that's ok also.
I'll try a few sites, and see if we can't find something overlooking the lake from the campsite. I think the state park will be pretty busy, I hear they are catching pretty big trout down there this time of year. We will probably stay away ha. I guess we are a bit "hermit-like".
Thanks again

We stayed at a Corp of Engineer park right on the bank of the lake in Theodosia, MO. Right by a bridge. It is a nice campground - not much around that area. There is a small grocery store, maybe a diner and a gas station in Theodosia. We also stayed at the White River/Bull Shoals Lake Campground and it was also really nice - campsites that back up to the river on the backside of the dam and right down the road from Gaston's resort. Gaston's is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't eat there - pricey and food is marginal. We also stayed at a private resort that had a couple full hook-up sites in Promised Land - the corp parks even without hookups except electric were much nicer. Good luck.

Bull Shoals/White River State Park

We stayed there last June and it was by far the nicest state park we have ever stayed at. What we really liked was that we had the northernmost campsite, actually a former tent site that had been demolished by a microburst that miraculously had failed to damage a giant oak tree that shades that site. The incredible thing is that in the 20-30 feet that you come up the river bank, the temperature actually changes 10-15 degrees because the water coming out from the dam is so cold.

The only drawback to this park is the sewage pump station that services the park that is directly across the river from about half the sites at the end of the park closest to the dam. It runs pretty constantly so you have this pretty loud power hum going all the time. Not so bad when you are inside the trailer but pretty noticeable if you are sitting outside. However, it is no where near as bad as that jet aircraft level racket that one gets waterfront at Lake Catherine SP from the power plant across the lake.

If Bull Shoals wasn't so far to drive from Dallas, we'd make it a regular destination, that's how much we liked it, noise levels non-withstanding.

Thanks Dana,
Great information. I'm looking forward to this trip more and more.

We also love the Bull Shoals White River State Park. It is beautiful. There are several full hook-up sites on the left as you go in the park for a little more $ and the others are water/electric. One year I tried to get in in Oct and they were booked so we stayed at Copper John's just down the road, which is a smaller, but friendly RV park. If you want a fishing guide for trout check out GI On The Fly, Paul Bobby. He is very good and fun to be with. We prefer the river to the lake, but that is just a personal choice. Arkansas has many great state parks...enjoy!

The town of Bull Shoals has a campground that was formally a Corp campground. We camped there often. No hookups but water in the park for filling your tank. Great views few people, call city hall.
