Camping near Six Flags West of Atlanta, GA

We are looking to camp for a long weekend near Six Flags Over Georgia just West of Atlanta. Any suggestions of good campgrounds that have activities and are not just glorified "parking lots"? We love state parks, But it does not have to be a state park for us to stay there.
Thanks in advance for responses!!

That's a tough one!
Sweetwater Creek State Park is close to Six Flags. It has some really great hiking trails and historic civil war ruins. Unfortunately, they don't have a campground.

You best bet by far is to camp at the full service developed campground inside Stone Mt. Park. Tons of great fun things to do. It is inside the Atlanta loop so you can hop onto the freeway for Six Flags and then return to Stone Mt. Or, you may find that Stone Mt. has all you need to stay entertained. Stone Mt. is a State Park operated under permit to the same corporation that runs Dolly Wood. It's a bit of a secret because most folks from the Atlanta area don't think of Stone Mt. having an RV park but they do.

I agree with Silverexpress, Stone Mountain is a nice park with plenty of activities.

McKinney Corps of Engineers Campground is on Lake Allatoona:

Facility Details -, Mckinney Campground (GA) -

Very nicely managed, NW of Atlanta but a quick ride down I75 to where you need to be.

One of our favorites. Only drawback is two way hookups so go easy on the showers or use the ones provided.

I'm liking Stone Mountain a lot. If I can get it past the wife, we're there!
