Camping in Yosemite

Has anybody camped in Yosemite in any of the campgrounds that said your trailer was too big? I'd like to think the websites error on the side of caution. Any input?

I've camped in Tuolumne Meadows towards the east end of Yosemite Park. Very tight and rough access roads, and sites are small. I don't remember the length limits, but for most loops, a 20 foot trailer would be too long. We were in a camper van at the time.

Saw something in the forum a year or two ago and asked how he did it. This might be helpful...BTW we have yet to camp in Yosemite in the Airstream.

What spot and campground were you in there. I thought those campgrounds were too small for a 27. were going to be in that area in September. Any recomends in Yosemite would be appreciated.


You are allowed to overhang parking pads, but not park any wheels on the dirt. So my EB measures out to AS hitch to back bumper 28' L x 8' 6" W ; hitch to back of rear TT wheel, 20' 2" , = 8' 6" overhang.
Measure your TV the same way to get useful numbers.
It seems that the 23' deep X 20' wide pads will fit my rig, IF it is clear of trees/rocks on the back edge.
This particular spot, 18 in Lower Pines is a handicap camp, that was a trade for a spot I couldn't get into. The real info on campground spaces is the ranger campground office in the apple orchard of Camp Curry.

We camped in Tuolumne Meadows in September in our 31' Airstream. There were plenty of spots that would hold us.

We were in Spot B40 the A spots were all bigger and held some big rigs.

C loop were small spots.

In September it was very hot and dusty. We were close to the bathrooms and the water faucet. I amused myself by watching all the campers wash their feet or their dirty dishes at the hydrant...despite what the sign attached said. LOL.

Desert View Campground on the east side of the grand canyon, only had maybe three or four spots that we could fit in.

I've camped in the valley a couple of times. The campground roads are narrow and seem to have trees in the wrong spots, makes backing in a challenge. If you get lucky you might be able to scrape a couple extra feet off the stated length. Be prepared to love thy neighbor, sites are very tight.
