Camping around Lafayette, Colorado

Has anyone stayed at the St. Vrain State Park in Longmont, CO? Open to other suggestions close to Lafayette, CO.

If you dont mind a short drive, we really love Clear Creek Campground on the edge of town in Golden. Stayed there twice this year, just got back a couple weeks ago. I imagine its a 30-40 minute drive to Longmont though. Maybe a little less.

We drove through Saint Vrain State Park a couple of years ago. About half of the sites are electric only, and the other half have full hookups. However, I suspect that the water may be shut off at some or all sites during the winter due to freezing temperatures.

During our drive-thru at the time, the campground was very clean, modern and secure. Also, there is excellent fishing in the Saint Vrain River. (This area used to be called Barbour Ponds.)

This park was damaged during floods in recent years, but relatives in the area say that the park is open, and campsites are in use. However, we have not seen it after the flood repairs were done.

Saint Vrain State Park

Thank you for your responses. We are going in May and I wanted make a reservation, but wanted to know if it is decent. Golden is too far from the family activities, but it helps knowing about the campground

We earmarked Standley Lake Regional Park (Westminster, CO) to check out in the future, but we have not camped there or driven through:

GPS: 39° 52.628'N 105° 7.702'W

Website: City of Westminster > Parks/Rec > Parks > Standley Lake Regional Park > Camping

These sites are primitive camping only; i.e., no hookups and no dump station. However, water spigots are available to fill freshwater tank. Also, no alcohol permitted. Numerous other restrictions, including entry and camping limited to season permit holders only on holiday weekends. Check Website for details.

Thank you for the information on Standley Park. I think St. Vrain with hookups is a better call especially since they have hookups.

Since I live up the road from Lafayette the choices are limited. St Vrain State Park is open and fully operational. I usually do at least one overnight there in the spring for a shakedown trip. Another choice is the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont, CO. St Vrain takes reservations while the Fairgrounds stopped taking res. late last year so first come first serve.

St Vrain has a bit of road noise from I25 but not that noticeable. Try for the section at the north end of the park if you want some trees. South section, newest, is pretty barren.
