Campgrounds in the Raleigh NC area??

I'm befuddled at the apparent lack of campground options in the Raleigh area. Any suggestions??

There is a place across Highway 70 from Camping World. I know nothing about it - looks like some long term sites.

We spent a few nights once at Tobacco Farm Camp in Henderson. Nice small quiet place but it is a ways from Raleigh.

Camping Raleigh, NC

You are right about the lack of camping in the immediate Raleigh area. There is however, a nice state park, Falls Lake, (electric/water) about 12 miles from Raleigh on NC-50. I believe the camping section that has electric and water is Holly Point.
N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation: - Welcome to Falls Lake State Recreation Area

There is also a nice state park, Jordan Lake (electric/water) about 25 miles from Raleigh on US 64.

Also there is a KOA in Smithfield, NC which is about 30 miles from Raleigh. This campground is very close to I-95.

The NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh offers camping year around. They have more than 350 full-hookup sites. We stay there when visiting relatives in Raleigh. It's very convenient for us as it's within a few miles of our families homes.

N.C. State Fairgrounds camping. RV recreational vehicle camping near RBC Center, I-40, Downtown Raleigh, Umstead State Park, NCSU North Carolina State University Carter-Finley football stadium, NC Museum of Art.

About the only caveat is to avoid the place during the NC State Fair!

The other thing worth noting is that the nice new RV campground on Youth Center Drive does not have restrooms or showers although I believe those are going to be added within the next few years.

If you want restrooms and showers I would recommend the camping area outside Gate 9. The gates are open during the day and you can use the facilities in the building nearest the gate.
