Campground Hosting?
Who here has been a campground host? Would you do it again, or were the downsides to much? Was it what you thought it would be?

We've thought about that, but, personally, I'm not too wild about getting away from here just to do what I do here: Mow the grass, clean the bathrooms, repeat.
Instead, we've sometimes thought about some of the jobs available from state and national wildlife preserves:

The position I am looking at has virtually no duties other than being around. On the other hand, you have to haul water in...

Oh, I could go in a heartbeat for one of the volunteer jobs I saw last year. The job: Photograph wildlife on the preserve.

While we have never done it ourselves, we have met lots of nice hosts and they seem to be satisfied with the arrangements, and are planning their next stop.
That, for me, says a lot about whether it could be fun for us.

we love it does have pros and cons we have had good experience so and doing it a year right now in San Marcos TX running a tube operation at a campground and gives us time to bring in a airstream rally to us otherwise we would not be able to go to one best of both worlds for us site and pay to with good friends and making new ones also we love it.

I'd do it if there were some attractive women there in the trailer park. If it was just a bunch of old people.. Hmm.. No.

Stay away from County Parks! KOA has a pretty neat deal; we've watched the amount of work they do and it seems pretty mellow. State Parks seem to think for a free campsite you should work your bu** off.

To start my retirement I've volunteered to be a campground host at the Coronado National Forest Riggs Flat Lake Campground in Southeast Arizona this summer, sharing the work with a man who will be there for his 7th season.
The campground is in the pines on Mt. Graham at 8,600' about 42 miles (12 miles on dirt road) from Safford, AZ, the nearest town. It's a basic boondocking campground, no hookups, although they have just drilled a new well with solar powered pump. The season is from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
I'm looking forward to it, my wife, who still too young to retire, is a school nurse, is off during the summer, and will be able to be with me most of the time. We've camped on the mountain numerous times over the last 30 years.

Daniel:
Age is a "state of mind" and attractive is in the eye of the looker, not the lookee! Me thinks you better stay in town close to Hooters.

There was a lady on "Car Talk" this morning whose job is to travel around Alaska campgrounds and parks all summer, evaluating them for Good Sam Club. Now THAT'S a job I'd like!

Hi Rodney, North River CG is a pretty easy campground to host. Just being there for the campers is about it. The NF cuts the grass. I believe there is a phone line for you, in case you need to call the District Office, the ranger, or if ever, the Rockingham County Sheriff. You get to meet some nice people on the weekends. It's usually empty during the week. Since the water pump is gone, water and warm showers can be had at the Todd Lake CG just 2 miles up the road. Todd Lake also has a dump station, so a tote cart will be helpful. The pit privies are low maintenance, just mopping, wiping down and toilet paper.

The reason we have our own on board facilities.
Only outhouses we have been pleasantly surprised in were in Canada, NF provincial parks figured out you could have a clean, odorfree toilet with some engineering. Painted surfaces, vent stack, vented area with translucent panels
