Campground close to Sequoia or Kings Canyon

I need a campground near Giant Sequoia and or Kings Canyon NP for May 3-6. I prefer national forest but would go with a commercial site if necessarily. If there is reliable boondocking in the area, I would love to know about it. Thanks.

Wow, given the popularity of this area, I would have guessed that folks would have weighed in on this one.

That looks like a place that could work.

Are you open to campgrounds within Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Parks? If so my favorite place is the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon. lots of camping with several campgrounds but a winding, steep road to it. I think the Sentinel Campground opens in April there. Cedar Grove area is like a smaller version of Yosemite Valley without the crowds.

Very much so! I had thought that I had waited to late for reservations. Being stupid, I just checked on reserve america without looking at the park site for non-reserveable sites. Don't I feel like an idiot. Thanks for getting me back on track.

I'm planning on Sequoia/ Kings Canyon and also Yosemite in mid July. I don't know if there is an answer to this question, but here goes. What is the chance of finding a first come, first serve campsite in the park, or do I really need to make reservations?

Inside Yosemite in the valley...slim chance, but you should check the YNP website to see if they have non reservable sites in other areas of the park, I think they might. All of the campsites in the Cedar Grove area of Sequoia/Kings Canyon are first come first served so your chances are good for especially if you arrive mid-week.
