In my past, when I heard someone say they were going camping, I envisioned the pile of sleeping tents, sleeping bags, perhaps a cooking tent if a big group and if really upmarket perhaps some folding chairs. When on site, everyone shared the shovel for doing personal business a discreet distance from the campfire.

Having an Airstream, perhaps we are going "remote housing" as we have all the appliances and comforts of a house....

to-may-to, to-mah-to...the rising sun toaster and its occupants are happy campers whether parked, rolling down pavement, or making our own road

The question of semantics or linguistics is first of all to many of us (I mean, I only can speak for myself) is independently enjoyable. There I said, it yeah, I like it, and I am proud

As to the term "RV", it is confusing to many people I meet. It seems to in almost every case so far conjure an image to the non-RV'er of a large class A motorhome...

What he said ^.
My wife calls it a "camper trailer".
Many people think RV means motorhome.
Camper, RV, trailer, travel trailer, camper trailer, Airstream, and RV are all synonymous and it may be called any and/or all at any time on any day.
Other than that, it has many names such as baked potato, silver bullet, my happy place, my cocoon...

Our Airstreams are basically our hotel rooms on wheels!

Camper! Short local trips are into the Sawtooth Range, long trips (one of 6,500 miles last year) are to PA, then down to Florida, then back home....but its stays a "camper". Its a lot simpler to say "camper" than "travel trailer", at least for this immigrant. Safe travels in your whatevers. jon
