Camp/park in Northeast Illinois, near Lombard

Help, please.

We are going visit w family in a couple weeks and need a place to park the trailer during a week stay in the Lombard area. We do need power as I assume it will be cold. Our family does not have space for our rig. We would like to use the 'stream if possible.

We have checked out all the campgrounds and they are either dumpy and not safe, to far or closed for the season. We prefer to not have to drive too close to Chicago. Courtesy parking would really be appreciated.

Since we are on the SE Coast, we don't know what the weather is like there in mid Nov.

Any help would really be appreciated as we are trying to plan this trip.

Thanks

We can't help you with courtesy parking, can tell you that northern IL weather in mid-november is likely to be cold with a chance of snow.

Lombard is a Chicago suburb, of course, and parking anywhere large enough for a trailer may be very difficult to find.

There are just not huge acreages with houses on them in that part of the state, and likely on-street parking of a trailer would be prohibited.

I suspect that folks with RV's up there have to store them.

Good luck!

We have a kitty and a family doing...
We were both born in the Chicago area, my husband graduated there, I worked in a bank downtown and were there for a great many years before getting smart and moving south. The traffic there is more of a nightmare and we do not want to "park" in the middle of it. Anyway, we don't know what to do about kitty for a 10 days, inc. travel time. May have to fly if nothing else will work. Kitty can't fly though.

Might hire a reputable pet sitter, as our Brooklyn-ites do for their pets when they are gone. Pricey, in our estimation, but provides excellent, reliable and compassionate care to their animals.

We boarded Lily at her doggie day care for a week earlier this year when we and ours were all gone for our daughter's wedding. Very reasonably priced, and she did great in a familiar environment.

There is probably a pet boarding something near you, if you can't find someone you could trust to come in.

In Nov. 2012 I had meetings near O'Hare. We hooked up near Marengo, and the drive in wasn't too bad. Here's a link to the reviews - Marengo (Illinois ) - Campground Reviews - RV Park Reviews

I am a vendor at a trades show in Lombard at the Embassy Suites. Maybe if you called and offered to pay you could park in the back there or one of the other hotels. You never know, there are I am sure other possibilities, just try to think outside the box a little, and use a hitch lock!

I have friends who have seasonal sites in Marengo where they keep their Airstreams. The park is Lehman's http://www.lehmanrv.com/.

It is safe and they are open year round with full hookups. (The seasonal sites, which are on the lower level by the lake, have their water shut off for the winter.) Lehman's is about an hour to Lombard.

The high temps this week will be in the upper 40's with the lows in the low 30's. However, within the next several weeks it could become much colder.

There are not many campground close to Chicago.

You might want to consider Il state beach park on Lake Michigan in Zion Il. Or chain of lakes park in Spring Lakes Il. I'm having problems with the links for some reason.
