California Gold Rush

Has anyone taken their Airstream (ours is a 25') on highway 49 through gold country in California. We are thinking of going north, from Mariposa to Calaveras or so. Did this years ago in a small motor home with no problems, but now our total length is 45' or so and I'm concerned.

Nevada city resident here. Go for it. Just take your time and pull over to let traffic by.

There's been a lot of lane widening, etc. on 49 over the past decade or so. We haven't had any problems on this road until up near Goodyears Bar/ Downieville where some of the curves are tight. I'd agree to just go slow and use the turnouts.

Oh, and that one big hairpin just north of Mariposa.

Hello, we are on our way up highway 49 on Sunday 6/26. We have traveled this highway in the past 1st time towing our 25ft Classic. We will camp in the Sierra City area. Can't wait to go.

We are staying at Wild Plum very near Sierra City, Sardine Lake out of Bassets, and Indian Valley. All Forest service CGS no hook ups, check out the web sites.

Thanks for all the advice. We really have no specific itinerary- just want to "wing it" for a few days to extend our vacation after we come down from Kings Canyon. We're going to Jackson (and then north) in September, so we want to focus more to the south this time out.

By then a new compground will be open in Nevada City called "camp Inn". Its in a good location very close to town. Nevada City would be a good stop once this opens.
