You would not *believe* what our Garmin RV tried to get us to do to avoid the Bodega Hwy between the town of Bodega and Bodega Bay. No matter how we reshaped the route, she kept trying to take us on the Bohemian Hwy and then Coleman Valley Road, which got us doing a three-point turn in the middle of a tiny country intersection when she tried to take us on a teeny road with a sign reading "Trucks and RVs not recommended", all to avoid the "30 feet from kingpin to axle not recommended" section of Bodega Hwy. She wanted us to make a big 100-mile loop out of our way, only to put us on a road much worse than the one she was trying to avoid. Our trust in her has been shaken.

Now we're thinking of going up to Jedediah Smith State Park for a night, but may try to go further north.

Ditto on the 3 point turn around. Great food in Occidental but CVRd sounds like it hasn't changed much. In the 80's I had 2 batteries in a RV come loose...I don't remember the danger signs then either but would have turned around. My tip-off was just the obvious (after returning from dinner at the Union Hotel) smell in the coach as the house batteries can come loose. Time to go home (via river road to 101).

Have a great drive to jed smith. It's awesome. A lot of big steelies come out of the Smith in that area. NB it will take you awhile between Rockport & Leggett. Personally I'd take 20 over to Willits. It's a truck route and while not without grades, is much wider, with pullouts and nowhere as curvy as the Legget leg. Personally if you're thinking of Ave of the Giants...there are a lot of on/off ramps from 101 but if you really want to see the big guys...Meyers Flat or Weott up to Pepperwood is the real deal.

Enjoy Jed Smith...watch out for poison oak, especially if you have dogs.

Last comment...FB to Jed Smith is one very long day when we drove Sea Ranch N (heading to EUG) via FB to Leggett in a Volvo XC...Crescent City. Via 20 will be better but still one very long day IMO.

Happy Trails

Bob
p.s if you're passing thru Trinidad around lunch...great fish and chips down at the wharf and plenty of RV parking as it's also boat launching. Not to mention the great view and very fresh fish.
