We went to Bull Shoals White River State Park a couple of months ago with a few other vintage Airstreams. We stayed on Loop A. I think the store on the water rents canoes, don't know for sure. The water was high, but still caught trout. We went to Mt. Home for license and supplies. Branson was about an hour or so. Gaston's White River Resort and restaurant is about 5 minutes down the river. It's worth a visit and dinner. Lastly, it is probably the nicest State Park we have ever stayed in. They keep the grounds in great condition and the staff is very friendly. We are planning another trip in the spring. Have fun, Bubba

I lived in Bulls Shoals for a short time in the 70s. I never camped around there so I cant speak for the park. I think the best (scenic) canoe trip would be about 40 miles away at the Buffalo National River site. It is worth the drive even if you just poke around there, visit the abandoned mining town at Rush which would be the likely take out site if you decide to canoe the Buffalo https: www.buffaloriveroutfitters.com
The White River right next to you is fantastic trout river if you fish.

We were one of the other vintage trailers with Bubba, there were many people just sitting taking in the river. There is a fog that comes off the water due to the temperature differential in the water temp to air temp, it is really cool looking and as you approach the river there is a noticeably temperature difference. We were in site 1 on loop a, would recommend it

My wife and I have stayed at bull Shoals at least 3 times a year for the last 18 yrs. We love it. Fishings good and the park is our sanctuary from stress. The dock at the park does rent canoes kayaks and trout boats. If you want to fish you can fish off the bank at low water or you can get a guide. There are many good ones
we like papa bills guide service. Enjoy your stay.

Camped there twice, years ago. Love the bottom draw dam. It is nature's own air conditioner in the summer. As mentioned fishing is good. Time of year doesn't seem to matter much.

Was ther a few weeks ago. Some of the sites are back in double sites, meaning you share the parking area with another camper. We were fortunate we had the curb side spot. Our neighbor had a small A frame pop up camper. If it had been a large 5th wheel it would've been tight. Didn't see it shown on the site description. It can be noisy with fishing Jon boats running full power up the river so they can drift back down. Saw some catch trout. We were in loop B site 42 so avoid that one.

My in laws used to own property on the White River (70's) right next to Newlins guide business (don't know if it's still there). I recall fishing on that river in the early am before the dam opened.
Like others posted, the water is very cold. I had hip waders on there in July and my legs ached from the cold!
Beautiful area; good fishing.
Not to get into politics - just history, but the Clinton Whitewater Affair involved land and business dealings right there....not that you'll find any monuments to that effect .
