I think some people are confused about part names. RECEIVER =hitch= bolted to the frame of the TV. HITCHBALL MOUNT =drawbar=where the trailer ball is mounted and removeable. My receiver has openings that I clip the brake-away cable too.I think the slinky is a great idea. It would be nice if they offered a coiled embilical cord also. THEY use em on big trucks ya know.
Like someone said if my receiver falls off then the brake-away cable is the least of my worries cause I've got bigger problems

Camp Fire Stories

I bet that was exciting -- and expensive.
Probably makes for the best campfire story of the night -- every night.
We got caught in high winds west of Cheyenne in 2008 with the Clipper and with full balast and taking it easy we had little problem. We had to drive to the extreme right of pavement to keep clear of other towed units. (commercial and RV) some offtracking as much as 4'. If we ever get into that situation again I think it would be a good decision to park and enjoy all the comforts of home. Thats what we have the DVD for eh?

The 70 mph wind coming up that valley along with the same side wind got under the floor of the trailer and flipped it on it side. I had no control of anything and it almost pulled us off into that 200' deep valley area.. The trailer did not separate from tow vehicle it twisted the trailer tongue.

At our unit's April rally this weekend and one of the guys had a coioed umbilical -- no kidding. First one I've seen for a travel trailer

Seems his favorite four-legged friend had snacked on the trailer's 7-way plug, destroying it. He connected a 7-way receptacle, just like the one by the receiver, to his jack post above the a-frame (above grazing level, apparently).

The coiled umbilical has same plugs on both ends, doesn't drag the ground and doesn't tempt. And looks neat!

Coiled Connections

Coiled connections, been around for years and should be available at any good RV, Truck or parts supplier.

Just enough for the chains to tighten completely.
BTW The break-a-way is NOT attached to my chain hook. It is around the bumper.

I have an eyebolt that replaced one of my license plate bolts. And a snap swivel attached to the breakaway cable. Snap the cable to the eye and I am done.

The length of my cable is enough so that it is the last thing to go.

Here is the new breakaway cable that I purchased from Colonial Airstream, NJ, after I literally shredded my existing lanyard. Since it is a pic without a URL, I will post it as a photo.
