Roosevelt dam was built between 1903 and 1911,the cyclopean-masonry gravity arch dam was the highest masonry dam in the world at the time and was among the last of the stone masonry dams built.
In 1996 safety modification where completed raising the crest elevation by 77 feet.It took over 200 individual concrete placement to strengthened and raised the dam.
The original dam top highway was designed to allow two model T Fords to pass, but today,s recreational vehicles and full size autos need the width of the new 1,080 foot long bridge. In 1995 the bridge was designated one of the top 12 bridges in the nation by the American Consulting Engineers Council which cited its overall design, size, eye appeal and design challenge.

THAT is not much help......will be here another week while we wait for a speedometer cable for the moho and a vision check(used to be called a reality check when psychedelics were popular )...

Did you know that the Tonto Basin was formed millions of years ago when the mountains around it rose and the land below sank to make the Tono Basin.Over the centuries the Tono Creek and Salt River cut the Salt River Canyon.( Now damed to make Roosevelt Lake)
The Tonto Basin has a lot of western history.Like on the 28th Dec 1872 about 130 solders found over 100 Yavapais indians as they where comming from a cave deep in the Salt River Canyon. The trapped indians refused to surrender so in the end about 75 indians died and the rest captured at what is now known as the BATTLE OF SKELETON CAVE.
Another part of western history here was the PLEASANT VALLEY WAR.(Also known as the Tonto Basin war) This was cattlemen fighting sheepmen. It lasted over a decade but the most heated part was between 1886 and 1887.It took the lives of 15 cattlemen and 3 sheepmen.
