Going

Well after 115 nights camping on BLM LTVA at Quartzsite I will be going to the house for a week or so then off to ?
Sure has been a good winter out here but the vendor are gone and the party is over for this year for us.
We will start posting again in a week or so when we get back on the road.

Thanks for the update, Jimmini; I've enjoyed spending the winter with you, even if was vicariously.

Yep, Jimmini is gone for the year out here, and the vacant site reminds me of a missing tooth...Big Gap, No Bridge...

Roosevelt Lake Arizona

Jimmini asked me to post to his thread after we spent the weekend with Jim and Min. He has no internet connection and may not for a while. As you are accustomed to reading on here, Jim always gives a little bit of the history of the area and this is my attempt to carry on his undying appreciation of Arizona.

Roosevelt Lake and Dam are one of the first federal projects authorized under the Reclamation Act of 1902 enacted by Theodore Roosevelt. He realized that harnessing water was the key to supporting Western growth and development. Thus the U.S. Reclamation Service was born which was later changed to the Bureau of Reclamation.

Between 1902 and 1940 the Phoenix area population increased by 60,000 people primarily because water and power had become readily available. The major feature of the Salt River Project was, and remains the Theodore Roosevelt Dam. Built between 1903 and 1911, the cyclopean-masonry gravity arch dam was the highest masonry arch dam in the world at the time and was among the last of the stone masonry dams built.

On March 18, 1911, former President Theodore Roosevelt dedicated the dam named in his honor. In 1963, it was designated a National Historic Landmark, and in 1970 the American Society of Civil Engineers designated the dam a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

In 1996 modification and restoration of the dam was completed which raised the crest elevation of the dam by 77 feet and increased the flood storage space by 1,714,409 acre feet. At that time a the current suspension arc bridge was built to route traffic from crossing the top of the dam.

Roosevelt Lake Camping

Thank you Jim & Min and Mike and Sheri Dean for your hospitality over the weekend. You kept us well fed and provided lots of laughter. We really needed the break from our busy lives.

Shrei and I are at Camp Verde. Jimmie called yesterday and wanted us to do a post for him. He is in the high country already,at the camp ground on Young road just 3 miles off of the 260. The snow is all gone and there is lots of room. We dont know how long he will be there but at least 2 weeks. We are going to Long Beach and will be back up there by May 11 so we hope to see some of you soon. If you need directions just give us a call. See you soon. Mike and Sheri

Hi Bob and Lou,
Ya, we made it to the rally. It was good. Pretty laid back with about 18 rigs. Had a good time. We left the Payson area and are in Cottonwood at TT for a couple of weeks. Talked to Jimmie last night, it was snowing on him--ha ha-- Mike

The Saga Continues!

I just got off the phone with Jim and he is now located at the Mogollon Campground which is located very close to Woods Canyon Lake. If you travel up FR 300 from 260, drive past the Woods Canyon turnoff (road pavement ends) another 3/4 mile and the Campground is on the left side of the road.

We will be up there on Friday with several others. Hope to see you there!

A little 6 hour surgery? What makes it a little surgery? Hope its routine and not much of anything at all and your recovery time takes less thn the surgery time.

I believe they do. It looks like the daily rate is $14 which would be $7 for you. They have a new camp host and we will have to see if he can figure it out.
