Q Storm

Well it was not a good night for boondocking in Q.We had rain showers off and on all day the 7th Dec.Then about 5 PM the wind started to pick up. I had put my awning in and taken all the chairs in the trailer.BUT I forgot to lock the awning. So about 8 PM with the wind blowing like 60 MPH and the rain and hail coming down like hell my awning is sucked out by the wind.Mike and I got out in this frog strangler and tied it down to the front and back of my SUV.The rain stopped about 10 PM but the wind kept it up till about 3AM.This AM I found that all was well with the awning no damage.
I have not got any info on how much rain we got or the wind speed but I would guess we got 2+ inches of rain and the wind speeds of around 70 MPH.
Some folks did not fair as well, here are some Photos. The first 2 are 4 CU members Bob and lou's AZ room. The other where taken around the camp.Photo 6 is my bird feeder the wind rapped around the hold open arm.

Great pics, pretty scary last night. A good reason to have lockers on the small awnings.

Thanks to Jimmy and Mike for helping me untangle the AZ room this morning. They were out checking things our this morning and came by to see how we fared. Once I got the thing over to the dumpser it didn't take long for the dumpster divers to show up and start strippng the unbent legs and supports.

Safe travels to all.

I've discovered that high winds, heavy rain, and heavy(not to mention cold and hard) hail are a temporary cure for dandruff...hmm, maybe I should become a stormchaser when I grow up...the washes around our compound filled up quickly and emptied about as fast...m

More about Q

Here are some of you camping options in Quartzsite.
The big Q has quite a few full hook-up trailer parks from low to moderate priced. There are no upscale parks with golf courses and palm trees in Q.
Most folks choose to boondock on the BLM land.(Bureau of Land Management)In Quartzsite the BLM has two types of campgrounds,FREE areas where you can stay for 14 days and LTVA (Long Term Visitor Area)where you can stay from 15 Sept.to 15 Apr. for $180 or buy 14 day permits for $40 with the option to purchase an unlimited number of additional permits.
The FREE areas have nothing,no tables,no toilets,no water,no trash service and no dump. You just find a place you like and set up camp.In Q there are places like the RV Pit Stop that sell propane, water and have dump and trash for just a few $$.
The free areas are.
(1) Plomosa Road located about 5.5 miles north of Q off of US 95 You can camp on both the North and south side of Plomosa RD I like this area.
(2) Hi Joly located about 3 miles North of Q.I do not like this site to small with to many people camping there.
(3) Dome Rock Mountain located about 6 miles west of Q off I-10.For me it is to close to I-10 road nose.
(4) Scaddan Wash about 3.5 miles East off of I-10 frontage rd.
(5) Road Runner located about 5 miles South on 95.This is a good area. This is the area we use for the 4CU Thanksgiving Rally.
Then there is the LTVA,there are 4,2 on the East side of 95 South of Q.La Posa North and La Posa South.La Posa south is where the dump station and water are that you can use with the purches of either LTVA permits.
On the west side of 95 are La Posa west and La Posa Tyson Wash.We use La Posa Tyson Wash as it seems to have the fewest campers.
Here are a few ways to boondock in the big Q.
(Photo 1) Boondocking in you little house.
(Photo 2) Boondocking in you Airstream MOHO.
(Photo 3) Boondocking in your Squarstream.
(Photo 4) Boondocking water pump This was wrong photo put can not remove.
(Photo 5) Boondocking in your sail boat.
(photo 6) Boondocking in you PU camper.
(Photo 7) Boondocking in your BIG MOHO.

Hello Jim. Is that Brian's 310 MH? How did that blue tarp tee pee handle the winds the other night? How about that two story trailer I saw on the East side of 95, and damage?

So, fire dancer at Jim's, till the firepit finally got going...then the sun went down and drug the temperature with it...busy day...went into town and bought eggs and beer...
life in the fast lane!...avoid the back room, tomorrow morning...I'd hate this life, if I wasn't enjoying it so much...we're here, you aren't, yet, but you could be...well???

Are these two homemade units out there in Q? I've seen the dull silver one before in pictures but a two door Argonsky with two-tone paint? Looks like it belongs on a train.

No I just thought they where neat to post.
The two tone one I think was made for and by Dee Howard the San Antonio Texan that built executive aircraft like the Howard 500.

Q Today

Well just a nother lazy day in Q.Got up around 8 AM(That a good start)set around the campfire with Mike drinking Bloody Mary's till about 10 maybe 11.Then went to town to get propane and fill up on water. Then took my walk, then a nap.Got up to post here.Bob and Lou moved down here with us and tonight dinner is at 5 at their trailer.
The weather today was in the low 60's with some clouds.Next week it is going to warm up to the upper 60's maybe the low 70's that is my kind of weather.
Photos are of the 4CU Airstream Park in Q last night. We have a MoHo,a Classic and a Squarestream, all we need now is a 5th wheel.
Sure hope some of you other Airstreamers out there stop by to see us.Your always welcome.

It is a quite day in Q.But that is what Quartzsite is all about quite, lazy and slow. There have been rain showers off and on this morrning but is starting to clear off now at 1030.Looks like we might get some solar panel electric after all.
It has been so slow that I have been looking at my postings from Jan.and Feb of this year of the big Q
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f382...ime-47340.html
Last night we all had dinner togeather. Bob and Lou made meat loaf and Rice. Mike and Tracy made green beans.I did the chocolate cake for desirt. We all set around the fire till almost 730 PM.I want you to know that is late for Q.
But with the 4CU New Years rally coming soon we need to learn to stay up late or we will have to use New York time to bring in the New Year at that rally.
Live is realy in the fast lane this time of year. The 4CU Thanksgiving Rally,Then the 4CU New Years Rally followed by the 4CU Dead Horse rally in Feb.Heck we dont even have time to Winerize are trailers.Oh I forgot we are in the warm part of AZ no need for that.

More Q History.

Did you know that in the 1904 election in Quartzsite AZ the famous Marshal for Tombston and Dodge City Wyatt Earp was listed as a candidate for constable. At that time he would have been 56 year old.
The Photos are of what I am told was the Bob Lambeth's cabin. He died in the 1980's in a shootout over a mining claim dispute.
The weather has been grate the last two days with temps in the upper 60's.Sitting in the sun is good for the old bones.
Once again thanks to Bob and lou they made a big pot of Frijoles beans and corn bread for all are dinners last night.
I have seen 4 Coyotes the last few days out looking for their dinners.

Q

I can see I have way to much time on my hands out here in the BIG Q while practicing my "SURVIVAL BOONDOCKING".
My thought for the day is where did all the memorable Christmas toy that I got in my youth go.I feel sorry for my Grate Grand Kid that they will never get them as a gift.
Things like.
Chemistry set's
Wood burning set's
Sling shots
Lawn Darts
Lincoln Logs
Daisy BB guns
Erector sets
Lional train sets
Bows, arrows and cap guns that we played Cowboys and Indains with.
Roller skates.
Tinker toys
Swings made from a old tire and a rope.
I guess some are rated unsafe by the "Product Safety Commisson" (Our Governmement hard at work to save us)while other are not Politically correct in this day and time.BUT they sure where fun when I was a kid and I managed to grow old on my own with out killing myself with them.
I hope that the Grate Grand kid will have memorable toys as they grow up to look back on when they grow old.

I had a Barbie addiction when I was young (yes, had the camper and took it out in the yard to play), my Grandfather made me a huge Barbie house out of wood, this thing was amazing and all made right from his hands. I doubt kids get gifts like that anymore.
