Its the time of year when my mind drifts to the NM mountains. About 20 years ago I lived up the Pecos Canyon and did a fair amount of fishing and hiking up in the forest. Part of me would like to head up there for a couple weeks this summer but I need some local information.
Has anyone taken their camper above Terrero? like maybe up to Cowles? What is the situation with boondocking up there, is it still allowed or have they regulated where you can camp. I am looking for a nice meadow or river spot close to hiking and fishing and loafing. Who is up to speed on the canyon?

Yeah, June will be a lot better. Still sometimes windy and fire season in some parts, though the latter seems to be more restricted to areas in the south this year.
I haven't taken a camper above Terrero, but I have pulled a gooseneck horse trailer up there a lot when I lived in the area about ten years ago. The road was in good condition at that time and you shouldn't have any problems. However, all camping was delegated to designated sites and campgrounds. I would give the US Forest Service office in Pecos a call for the lastest information.
