Western Colorado sucks too. It snowed here yesterday morning and it won't be "winter" for two months. Colorado is so bad Ken left the Front Range for Washington (note that both states have recreational marijuana). There are no traffic jams in Grand Junction and that means you have less time to text while you are waiting to get through a traffic light. If you have to move to Colorado, go to Denver—plenty of traffic there since the Californians came in bulk 20-25 years ago; before that it was Texans. Actually no one (but my wife) was born in Colorado. It is full of malcontents from somewhere else. If you want to move somewhere, Washington or Oregon are much better than Colorado.

Bob,

There's lots of Canada to see and we've enjoyed just about all of it—we've been to all 10 provinces and 2 of 3 territories (no road to #3, Nunavut). Even in Quebec, people were friendly although it was hard to get around the language barrier there. If you like trees, Canada is full of trees and some people.

Dusty is gone.

Hi, I have already posted this sad news on a few other Air Forum threads, but not here. On June 19th [Father's Day] late at night Dusty passed away peacefully in his bed. Dusty will be traveling with us, in spirit. Dusty was 18 1/2 years old and was a great traveling companion. Dusty was a big part of this thread and will be missed.

Hi Bob,

Although I never got a chance to meet Dusty in person, I feel I got to know him well through your posts. He lived a very long and very loved life. It was obvious that he enjoyed his life very much. He loved, and was loved by, his life companions. I hope I live to be 126 (18x7) being loved and enjoying life as much as he and then finally pass quietly in my sleep. Who can ask for anything more than that?

I'm sure you guys will, when the time is right, find another canine friend nearly (but of course not quite) as perfect as Dusty.

Bob,

Losing a close and dear friend is hard for anyone. Glad to hear Dusty was peaceful at the end. Every pet and human I have lost has been wrenching in one way or another.

We have a 16-year-old cat and 91 and 90 year old in-laws (or parents for Barb) and they are all slowing down. Hard to watch especially since we are also slowing down.

Thanks for letting us know and sharing your loss.

Bob,
I'm so sorry to hear about Dusty passing away on Father's Day. He was so lucky to have had the two of you after your dad died. It was obvious that you two grew to love him greatly. It seems to me on your last Random trip you and Lee did very little together because one of you were always staying with and caring for Dusty. Who would have guessed that little dog would have brought such joy and love to another couple. Guess you two were lucky to have him as well.

So sorry to hear about Dusty. I have followed your thread & mentioned the sweet pictures of Dusty during your travels to my husband just recently. I love my pups so I know how difficult this is for your family.

Jackson Rancheria 2017 and more.

Hi, we only attend one Rally per year and Jackson Rancheria is it. Located on an Indian reservation in Northern California. We always extend our rally time and make a side trip too. This is a great rally and has been sold out for years, but they do have a stand-by list.

Sutter Creek.

Hi, Sutter Creek is just a few miles up the road from Jackson Rancheria. They have a yearly car show and chili cook off there. We tried to go to the car show last year, but there wasn't any parking left in this little town. This year we were lucky to find a spot in a field which required driving over a ditch. We have four wheel drive and a locking differential this year in our 2014 F-150 so we felt safe that we wouldn't get stuck. And we didn't. Lots of nice cars and a tour of an antique fire station.

Hi, Sutter Creek has some interesting buildings. The very first picture taken on this trip was of a house with an Arbor??? Lee said stop here and take a picture so you can see what I want you to build for our house. This will be next year's project.

Lake Tahoe.

Hi, after the rally we headed for Lake Tahoe. We found a great camp ground, but due to the fact that they don't allow dogs there, I cannot recommend it. We are pet less at this time so it was Ok to stay there. The camp ground was owned and run by Indians. [American Indians] While there we did some driving and hiking. It's been close to 40 years since we were last there.

Lassen National Park.

Hi, after leaving Lake Tahoe, we headed for Lassen National Park. It was getting late when we got there so we camped in their parking lot for $8.00 per night. My generator system worked great this time so the bugs are gone. [or worked out] Built and designed for our cross country trip, I installed a wiring system on my trailer for a front generator inlet and my system uses a jumper cord instead of a transfer switch. I have "D" rings in the bed of my truck for mounting my Yamaha 2400 Generator which does a great job running my 120 volt needs. We did a little bit of hiking the first evening, but cut it short.

Crater Lake????

Hi, as we drove North through Lassen National Park we saw the remains of a huge forest fire. [Sad] OK, so lets try Crater Lake. Crater lake is sort-of on the way to our home. Lately friends and neighbors went there just to see nothing. We ran smack dab right into a snow storm. Knowing that we would have to boondock and see nothing, we chose to drive right past the Crater lake entrance. I have done it before several times while towing our Safari with my 2000 Lincoln navigator, I still don't like traveling mountain roads on snow and ice. I felt my ABS activate once very briefly. Lee asked, what was that noise? To not scare her, I waited until we got out of the frozen parts of the road before telling her what it was.

Looks like better weather in Salem.

Hi, After driving past Crater Lake we stopped for gas and lunch at a Pilot truck stop. It was still pretty cold out. It was a much longer drive from the Bend area to the 5 Freeway near Eugene than I expected. On this trip, we went through several towns without gas stations and it was a concern because we have had a few very close calls of running out of gas in the middle of no-where. Where do these people buy their gas? We made it home just in time to have dinner. Tomorrow we will start dealing with unloading the truck and trailer and everything that needs to be done after every trip.

Hi, This trip was relatively short for us; Just under 2,000 miles. My generator system was fantastic and made my wife happy that we had power when needed. Great for lunch breaks at rest stops Etc. My truck was also fantastic; No problems or concerns at all. My trailer was for the most part great too. My only problem was the knob on our stove top for the igniter. I think it is a poor design, but it did work for correctly for over ten years. The knob slips and you can't light the burners. I made a Mickey Mouse repair a few years ago; That failed and we forgot our butane lighters. I was able to, in the middle of the night, find a few screws and get my cordless drill out, and make the knob work for the rest of our trip. I was very close to not bringing my cordless drill. That would have been a mistake. I'm going to see if I can adapt a push button barbeque igniter switch to work. If it does, it will be easier to change out and find replacements.

Hi, I for got that we had one more failure; Our DVD player decided to only play in Black and White. I guess it's time for a new one. Maybe Blue Ray????

Bob's projects this year.

Hi, we have been busy this year. last year I built a 76' long fence with a 12' wide three section gate. This year I built a garden shed and a patio cover for our house. At my age, I told Lee no more large projects.

Thanks for the great reports and photos! FWIW our tow vehicle always carries some waterproof matches for emergencies, plus a flint and steel, etc..

Ya never know what is going to happen . . . [with or without the trailer] . . .

Cheers,

Peter

X2 on glad to see you back. Have enjoyed your posts over the years- thanks. Use to enjoy Gene's as well but he has been seduced by the dark side and now enjoys a trailer with two doors.

Hi, Thank You Peter; My wife already thinks that I bring too much stuff. Matches and a flint wouldn't kill my payload.
