Trying to find a place to stay for our last night.

Hi, now it's getting to be Thursday night and Georgette found us another campground that was only about 18 miles away from where we were. This ended up being 18 miles of up hill winding roads with "ICE" signs posted everywhere. The thermometer in my Lincoln kept getting lower and we were passed by a snow plow going the opposite way. What were we getting into? We thought 18 miles would only be about twenty five minutes or less. We drove for just about an hour. We finally made it in time to find our campsite in the dark. we were at Lake Hemet campground and it was getting cold. I opened my other propane tank because I wasn't going to lose my furnace in the middle of the night. Between our little oil filled heater and our furnace, our trailer was cozy.

Lake Hemet campground.

Hi, Friday morning was getting real interesting because we didn't plan on finding such an out of the way and cold place to camp. And of course Boo-Boo needed to get out to take care of business, just past midnight.

(1.) This is not snow; It's frost from being so cold out.

(2.) Ice crystals on my trailer.

(3.) This is how cold it was last night.

(4.) More ice flakes/ crystals and a reflection.

Freezing outside and cozy inside.

Hi, we were quite warm in our trailer and there were several signs of just how cold it was outside. Our oil filled heater worked well and when it got real cold the furnace took over. Hot coffee helped in the morning too.

(1.) Frosted Lincoln and Safari.

(2.) Frosted Air Forums decal with reflection of my trailer.

(3.) The greatest little oil filled heater.

(4.) Nicest little stove top percolator.

Below freezing camping.

Hi, it is still Friday morning and the fun was about to begin. Boo-Boo is always ruffling up the kitchen rug. Every time we flatten it out Boo-Boo ruffles it again. I keep saying that I'm going to buy a heated hose, but haven't yet, so once again, my hose froze. It makes the neatest round ice pieces, but it takes a while to get them out of the hose.

(1.) Boo-Boo and his kitchen rug.

(2.) My frozen water hose; Good thing I have another one to use while this one thaws out.

(3.) My hose spitting out round ice pieces.

(4.) About half of the ice pieces that came out of my water hose.

Sewer problem. No pictures.

Hi, now I have my spare water hose connected so we can shower and fill our tanks for the flush process. I have my sewer hose connected, waiting for the OK signal [meaning the black tank has been filled and is ready to be drained] I pulled the release lever and the hose filled and that was it. The sewer connection was clogged or frozen. Now what? I have a sewer hose full of black water and it's not going down the drain. I had to disconnect the sewer hose from my trailer and the sewer drain. I picked up both ends, to prevent spillage, and connected it to the next drain pipe. Then I had to back up my trailer so the sewer hose could be re-connected to my trailer. This drain worked and the mess was very minimal. Now we were able to re-fill the black tank with clean water to flush out the tank. After that I drained the Grey tank and all was good to go. Boo-Boo was in the car and ready to go home. We made it home today with nothing broken in the Safari or Lincoln. All of my tires are still black, round, and full of air. We had a great time on this trip and our last night was something you would never dream of. Hope you all enjoyed traveling with us.

Bob,

We've had problems finding a last place to stay and dump at the end of the trip when it is cold. But … nothing as bad as you just experienced. Having to defrost the sewer hose and carry both ends up high to prevent an ugly mess is what I fear the most (sort of—there are worse things that can happen).

We have a good friend that went and gave the frozen slinky a good hard kick and you can just picture that. Sal

We set a limit of $50.00 or keep going. Well this campground only had back-ins where I would have to disconnect, up against a block wall, right next to a busy highway, and over our limit. So we asked Georgette to find us another campground in the direction of our home. (1.) Georgette directed to Hemet. There were also signs on the road too. Well the campground was no longer there. There were a bunch of new houses being built there. (2.) So we asked Georgette to find us another campground that was close by. Well this one didn't exist either. (3.) Georgette, please try again. Well she found another one that had no spaces left and looked like a Tijuana mobile home park. Now this is getting to be ridiculous.
Bob, perhaps, Georgette, needs to go back to 'school' for some map updating.

Hi, Princess Georgette has been up-dated and I will order a larger Micro-SD card for her. Originally she had enough memory, but I installed an 8 GB Micro-SD card in her for a major up-date. I'm ordering a 16 GB micro-SD card for Princess Georgette. Princess Georgette got her name because she has a nice female voice and she was purchased from Costco in Prince George, Canada. I also had to tell Georgette that I cannot drive in the car pool lanes while towing my trailer.

Hmmmm...I may have to check to see what 'options' are for our 'Georgette' Garmin. We use it largely locally when we need to find a specific address. We know the way to get near and drive our way to the area. Our 'Georgette' get's upset...sometimes very upset if we don't stick to the entire route that she has laid out. My wife and I love to call out the expected 'RECALCULATING' when she does. I find that traveling in totally unfamiliar areas I need a fold out printed map to prepare me ahead of Garmin's directions. Do you leave 'everything' to her/it?

Is this a California thing?

I do it here and in Seattle, when convenient. I have done it California also. It was on I-215. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a vehicle with two or more passengers.

Most likely you can get away with towing in the commute lane....IF you aren't too slow at 55mph. Any faster you will be exceeding the 55 mph car with trailer speed limit. It's win/lose.....most likely you lose.

Every time I go through an urban area with those Lexus lanes the signs are so cryptic I am scared by them. People seem to have magic boxes that pay the tolls that may not apply to us. Being a rural rube, I don't understand that big city stuff and am afraid of going to jail for something. Lately I see that I must stay in the right or right center lane with a trailer, but I see big trucks passing in the next lane over all the time.

California must use numbers with different values since the 55 limit for trailers seems to mean 62 or 63. I just follow a tractor/trailer.

Hi, No. But she helps a lot in strange areas. We test her when close to home to see if she will take us the way we would go. She has surprised us a few times and went exactly the way we would go.
