Hi, yesterday Lee took the Arnold Ferry to Mackinac Island while I stayed home with Dusty. Dusty wasn't feeling good because we gave him some food that wasn't good for him. Actually it wasn't good for us either. Today, I went to Mackinac Island on the Arnold Ferry and Lee stayed home with Dusty. He's doing much better now. It's sort-of like Catalina Island but much larger and much busier. Lee took a few horse drawn wagons and I like a crazy person walked mostly around the Island. It was about 7.5 miles and I only saw one other person [woman younger than me] walking around the island.

Note: The red line on the map is where I walked today; Boy, was I tired. [too old for this]

Hi, In Ford Country, you can hear a Dodge rust! Actually everything in Michigan rusts in time. I never saw a California car, or truck, like this.

Basically it is old original houses and machine shops Etc. that were owned and lived in by middle class people who made a mark in history. There was a steam engine train ride and rides on/in model "T"s, Model "A" busses, Horse drawn wagons/carriages and more. Houses and buildings are from Henry Ford, the wright brothers, Etc. I took about two hundred pictures there today.
I lived near there......back in the '40s. Dad took my brother and I several times. Don't think I ever saw the whole place.
Here is a photo that dad took in the 1920s.

My recollection was that higher octane gas burns more slowly. Increasing the cylinder compression and advancing the timing made for a higher hp motor but it would knock badly especially under load and the solution was to use premium fuel to enjoy the higher performance motor without the damaging preignition. Modern engines with all their sensors and computer controls can adapt to temperature, altitude and dynamically adjust performance within limits. I'm not sure that putting premium into the tank will provide a noticeable change. It would be interesting to learn if you saw an increase in fuel economy, but it might not be enough to warrant the difference in cost.

7-27-2015 more pictures.

Hi, Lee said I was supposed to post more pictures from the Mackinac Island, so here they are. The Grand Hotel, two light houses, and three main street hotels.

Hi, yes; My recollection is the same as yours. Some new or newer vehicles can run different octanes and I'm curious what mine will do with Premium. By Ford, I should be running Premium on this trip because I'm towing.

He's not nearly near enuff for that.

Hopefully, if he goes to the ocean beaches and drives on the beach, he will thoroughly wash off the underside of his new truck upon return to the safety of the east side of the coast range.

Ken

How's the pooch doing? We have to be very careful what we feed our Maltese when traveling. Their 12 and 13 and the older they get the more sensitive they are to food. Enjoying your posts.

Hi, Thank You for your concern for Dusty; He's doing a lot better now. We ordered Nachos from a local Mexican restaurant. We gave Dusty a few chips. All three of us had ill effects from eating the Nachos. Heartburn, gas, and stomach ache. Dusty couldn't sleep and either could I. I gave Dusty a dish of cold canned chicken and that eased his pain so he could sleep. I also gave him a baby aspirin wrapped in cheese. Dusty is back to normal again.

Hi, we were a lot closer to the Ocean in Lakewood/Long Beach [8 1/2 miles from the Ocean] and still never saw cars like this Dodge. I think we are about 45 miles away from the Oregon coast.

Dinner last night.

Hi, last night Lee wanted to go out for a steak dinner and had a place already in mind. Caroline found the name and address for this place, but took us to the wrong end of the same street. Maybe a North / South thing. She wanted me to order a 20 oz. steak to share and she wanted a hamburger too. We did a number on our shared plates, had snacks left over for today and steak and potatoes for Dusty too. We ate at the Dixie Saloon. We noticed the everyone writes there name somewhere in there and we have never done this before, but Lee wrote our names near the window. I guess we can check that off of our non existent bucket list.

My car with a small supercharger gets better milage on mid grade than regular even though it doesn't drive any different. I was skeptical until I went through a few tanks and the numbers didn't lie. The difference in milage more than made up for the extra $$$. I can see how a turbo tow vehicle might react the same way
