What? No trips this year?

Hi we had a lot of things to do around our house this year and the time was just flying by. We stayed at home so we could visit Dan and Irene when they camped at Silver Falls which is only about twenty miles from our house. We also were paid a visit from Ted and Marion when the Wally club came to Salem, Oregon this year. But we still had one Airstream trip planned for this year; It was our one and only Airstream Rally at Jackson Rancheria. Well we had to cancel our once a year rally for this year because it was the same time as our European River Cruise. Yes, we signed up for our fourth ever cruise ship tour. This one, though, is not an ocean cruise , but rather a River cruise. As previously, some of my followers asked me to post about our cruises here too.

We almost had to cancel our River Cruise too. I was feeling weak at times and my wife said that I was sleeping way more than usual. A trip to my doctor with a small list of concerns. My major concern was a strange feeling in my stomach area. And I forgot to mention that I had a small cluster of insect bites on my back. [I brought my wife because I always seem to forget or overlook something when seeing my Doctor] Well the insect bites were actually Shingles. I was very lucky in the fact that my Shingles were painless and didn't have the contagious blisters. I had X-Rays, a sonogram, and wore a 24 hour heart monitor. Nothing found, so next up was the CT scan. Bingo, we found something. But we're not done yet. I had to go in for a combo Endoscopy, biopsy, and internal sonogram. I have a small tumor growing on my stomach and it has to be removed. Since this all happened so close to our River Cruise, the surgeon said it would be OK to do the surgery after we come back home.

Un-winterize / re- winterize.

Hi, as weather was getting better and we at least had one trailer trip planned, I un-winterized our trailer. And today I winterized it again since our trailer trip has been canceled. Living in Southern California, I never had to do this, but now in Oregon I do. Cold weather can creep up on you here so you need to be ready to winterize before a freeze. Being as though, I know we won't be able to use our trailer this year, And going on a cruise, and then my surgery, I might not be in any condition to winterize my trailer so today was the perfect time to get it done.

My wife wanted a little Tea Table and we couldn't find what she wanted anywhere, So we built one. I'm trying to get some things done before my surgery because it might be a while before I feel like projects around the house.

Thanks for the update, and best wishes for the surgery. We have been on a similar medical "cruise" for the last few years . . . beats the alternative.

Gorgeous tea table with clean lines and proportions!

Peter

PS -- Which river cruise? Friends have been on a few and loved the experience.

Hi Bob,
A great trip is a great trip whether by river or ‘stream...after your little medical adventure we hope to see you (randomly) on the road next summer.

So . . . an older gentleman goes into the doctor's office and says, "Doc, I've been having terrible problems with my memory!"

Says the doctor, "When did this begin?"

To which the man replies, "When did what begin?"

Hi, Thank You. Lee comes up with ideas and Bob has to make them. We are going with Viking this time and will start in Budapest, Hungary and end up in Amsterdam, Holland. With several stops in-between.

Hi, Thank You. So far so good on the medical. Doctor mostly ruled out cancer. We will do our best to enjoy the cruise and hope to make good use of our trailer next year.

Hi, Thank You East coast Bob. My batteries are charged, I set my tire pressures, and torqued my lug nuts. Tanks are empty though. Lee said hi to you.

Glad to hear your shingles are relatively benign and your tumor is probably also so. Nice looking table. Barb wants a new table on the deck, so can you make a water- and snow-proof one? Not only does my wife have ideas, I do too, so the two of us keep me busy.

Seems like our trips get shorter, our stays get longer and being lazy under an awning is more desirable than it used to.

Enjoy your river trip, though I am perplexed how you go from Budapest to Amsterdam—must be canals as well as rivers.

Viking River Cruise

Hi, we had to cancel our yearly Rally at Jackson Rancheria this year due to the River Cruise being on the same dates. We hope to get our trailer out next year including the Jackson Rancheria Rally. Being that my surgery was too close to our cruise we scheduled it to be done three days after we get back home. Wish me luck.

Hi, today we left our Salem house to spend the night at a hotel in Portland. We stay here for convenience. By staying here we are allowed to leave my Lincoln in their parking lot for 14 nights. Since we will be gone longer it will cost $10.00 per day extra for three more nights.

Last time that we stayed here , for another cruise, it started to become winter before we got home. Due to rain and freezing weather, my Lincoln was completely covered with about a 1/4" of ice. And I left my ice scrapers at home. I have two ice scrapers with me this time so you know that I won't need them.

We tried to bring everything that we thought that we might need, but no extras due to weight and luggage sizes. We have one large suit case, one medium suit case, and one carry-on. I weighed the largest one and we are within our limits.
