Day 29.

Hi, as mentioned earlier, we are going to be here in Haines, Alaska for four nights, so we can take a boat trip. Today was quite busy. We went to the local Fire station / Police station. Went looking for Bears, Eagles, and anything else we could find to see or do. We saw seven Bears and three Eagles today. Lee wanted Mexican food today, so we shared a Super Nacho. We plan on going to the State Fair tomorrow. It's within walking distance from our camp site and the following morning we are going on the boat cruise. The Lincoln is doing fine, but the Safari is trying my nerves. This morning the bathroom fan wouldn't come on and I didn't want to work on things today. I tried the fan several times, but it refused to work. Well, I can live without it for a while. Later this evening, when we came home for dinner, I flipped the fan switch and it came right on. [Fixed?] The Lincoln is running low on fuel again, so I will be waiting for all of your donations to reach me.

(1.) This is the local Fire/Police station.

(2.) Two of three bears, [momma and two cubs] that we saw fairly close.

(3.) An old ship wreck that was between the ocean and street; I think it has been there for quite a while. Alaskans seem to just leave things where they crashed or died.

(4.) This is the Cannery where you can actually watch them at work. There was also an Airstream just sitting there. It was in pretty good shape, but not being used. May be it's final resting point.

Two years ago when we went to Jackson Rancheria, there was a Chocolate factory and I wanted to take the tour. You could walk along the windows and see inside where the Chocolate candy was being made. Well the workers had gone home so we couldn't see the process. At the Cannery, we got there just in time to see them cleaning their equipment before they went home. Darn it, we were late again.

More pictures.

Hi, I have a picture of the Mexican Restaurant where we had lunch and a Forrest that we were going to hike in, but found out it was a ten hour hike. Talking about tires; I saw a very old, cracked up, Goodyear Wrangler today. And it was still on the road. Would you like to ride in the tour bus this tire was on? [left front]

(1.) Mexican Cantina, restaurant.

(2.) Dense forrest.

(3.) Check the cracks in this tire's sidewall.

(4.) This is the tour bus that that cracked tire was on.

Day 30.

Hi, today I went to get my Lincoln's oil changed. The service department looked like it wasn't open yet, and when I asked about it, the man behind the counter barked out, "It's Saturday, the service department isn't open." So I drove around town, took some pictures and came back home. This evening, I took my hitch head apart, cleaned it, and re-greased it. I also bought another tank of gas for a measly $125.00 for about 22 gallons of premium. "Ouch" We went to the State Fair and went looking for wild life again. We got too close to the bears today, Lee said. Instead of following the path along the water, they came out onto the street where we were all out in the open and no-where to go. A few scared people asked strangers to let them into their cars, as we were parked on the other side of the bears. No-one wanted to walk past the bears while they were coming our way down the narrow street.

(1.) I took this picture of the Eagle.

(2.) Lee Lee took this picture of the Eagle.

(3.) Whooooooo, went to the State Fair and saw this huge Owl?

(4.) Craftman, making traditional Totum Pole, at the Fair.

My nieces, who live in Anchorage, have been begging us to visit them. We want to take an Alaskan cruise but your, Bob and Lee, travels tempt me to travel by land. However...NEVER with our convertible! We have been there in the past, unfortunately for my brother's funeral. It was during Winter. Absolutely SPECTACULAR! It took some of the saddess from that visit.

Bob, when I needed an oil change in '06, I got nowhere for many miles—it was a weekend, we're booked up for a week, and other excuses. Few mechanics, laid back places, little competition. Last year I brought my own oil filter in case no one had the right one, but I should have brought oil too because it's very expensive up there. You may have to go to Whitehorse to find what you want. Every oil change I've had in the North Country has put me into shock when I got the bill.

Nice photos of the grizzlies. We must have missed the bears by a week or so last year.

Day 31.

Hi, today we took a boat tour to Juneau, Alaska. And a bus tour while there. It was a fun day, but rainy and foggy again. So some pictures aren't what we would like, but that's the chance you take here. The weather seems to change daily. We, for the first time, hired a dog sitter; This gave us some peace of mind while we were out all day long. In Juneau, we had lunch, went to a Museum and hiked to another Glacier. Mendenhall Glacier is the name, I think! Juneau has millions of cars. Well maybe not millions, but more than I could ever count. And since you cannot drive to or from Juneau, that means that all of these cars were shipped there. Quite a busy town and that is to be expected, since it is their Capital.

(1.) Lee caught a Whale Tail.

(2.) Mendenhall Glacier in rain and fog. It was huge, came all the way down to the water, and had Icebergs under it.

(3.) Look at the water, it has two distinct colors. It is where the river water meats the Ocean water. I don't know about you, but this amazes me. [it's like water and oil not mixing]

(4.) And just like any typical tourist, we got on the "WRONG COACH".

Hi, at the Museum there were a lot of interesting things so I will share a few that I liked. On the boat tour we passed an island Light House. We hired Ivanca, by recommendations, to dog sit Boo-Boo. [Dusty] She came over to our trailer last night to meet Dusty and to get acquainted with him. He was not sure whether she was was friend or foe, but he took to her right away and she took Dusty for a walk and played with him for quite a while before going home. This gave us some peace of mind knowing that Dusty was going to be fed, checked on, walked, and played with while we were on an all day trip.

(1.) Mask at the Museum.

(2.) Light house lense at the Museum.

(3.) Island Light House.

(4.) Ivanca saying good bye to Dusty.

Bob, thanks for a few photos from the museum that was closed when we were there. There's a lot less Mendenhall Glacier than in 2006. Juneau is a nice town, but it always seems to be raining.

I'm already feeling like my imaginary trip is ending—I don't want to go home! Maybe Bob and Lee will take us to Skagway.

Day 32.

Hi, today we left Alaska; "Good bye Alaska." Skagway was a 15 mile trip, by boat, from Haines. And a 250 mile trip by Lincoln. We had enough bus, boat, and hikes to see Glaciers, tourist stores, and fish & chips meals so we decided not to go to Skagway. So far today, all of the roads that we drove on, on the way to Alaska, in the Yukon were all fixed. These were the same roads that tried to destroy my trailer on the way up here. So, if this is how they do it, it would be better to wait until August to tow/drive your Airstream to Alaska. And you might not have to wrap it up, like we did, before you go there. We were going to remove all of the Armour from the front of our trailer today, but Dave, the camp ground owner said that south of here, there are still gravel roads and patches. We will wait until we cross the Yukon border. We are in Teslin, Canada at Dawson Peaks RV Park and in space number one again. On our trip today, we saw one Eagle in a tree, one baby Black Bear, one Fox, and a crashed airplane on the side of the road. We saw this crashed airplane on the way up too, but there is no safe place to stop and take a picture. I only took two pictures today and they were both of Boo-Boo. [Dusty]

(1.) Dusty re-arranged my shoes.

(2.) Dusty decided to use one of my shoes as a chin rest.

Bob, I'd wait until you leave BC before removing the armor. We had gravel and fresh oil there last year. With a short construction season, they are always fixing the roads.

We hired Ivanca, to dog sit Boo-Boo. [Dusty] [QUOTE]

You could have sent him by PetParcelForce I would have tickled his chin and cuddled him for a few weeks..
So much more interesting there than here..
I can only find spooky graveyards and suchlike..
