Day 25.

Hi, today it was still rainy and foggy, so I was glad that I didn't sign up for the boat tour; I wouldn't be able to see anything in this kind of weather. We were on the lookout for Eagles and we found some. [and a family] This is our last day here and we move again tomorrow.

(1.) STOP gun fire in Alaska!

(2.) Eagle on top of tree in the rain.

(3.) Family of Eagles having Salmon for lunch.

(4.) Baby Eagle takes a flight.

Day 26.

Hi, we are now at a camp ground in TOK, Alaska. Boy are we having fun. I asked if they had WIFI, and they said yes, but you can only use it for one hour free. I put on a sad face and told them that I haven't had any WIFI for a week, so they gave me another coupon, good for a second hour, free. This is one of the reasons that Days 21 through 26 have short stories. Dusty got a bath so I had to wash his laundry today. After I loaded the washing machine, I read the sign stating that I'm not supposed to wash rugs and dog stuff. An hour later the dryer ate Dusty's dog collar and License. I had fun trying to explain how his collar and license got stuck in the dryer and we had to get it back. I was finally able to get his collar back without disassembling the camp ground's dryer. Also today, while setting up camp, I noticed one of my trailer tires has begun to separate. Tomorrow morning, I will try to get a new tire. Today we drove for many miles on pebble and gravel roads. I cringed every time a truck passed and heard the rocks bouncing off of my Lincoln's windshield. No damage that I could see today. These roads make a few miles seem like a lifetime.

I've missed you. Exit Glacier looks narrower than it did in 2002. Hope you got that tire.

Day 27.

Hi, this morning we left Tok, Alaska. Bzzzzz, Bzzzz, Bzzzzz. OK, I'm back; The only place the WIFI works is outside by the closed office and I had to re-install my Mosquitoe cream. First stop was to buy a new trailer tire. Only two places in Tok sell tires. The tire dealer didn't have one so they told me to try the Chevron station. Chevron had one [only one] and it was a year 2011 DOT date code. You all have heard of a two for one price sale, well I got a one for the price of two tires price. [almost] It was $195.00 for the tire and $10.00 to mount, balance, and hand torque the wheel on my trailer. Since I didn't want anyone jacking my trailer, I brought out my brand new Trailer ******* Plus to use for the first time. [forgot the name of this yellow tool] The Yukon road is brutal; My kitchen sink pipes came loose and dish water was all inside of the cabinet. Two of the shelves are now warped, but still work and are out of sight, so I can llive with that. The shower handle came loose again, so I tightened it up too. As for the cabinet door hinges, that kept coming loose, I fixed them with blue Lock tight.

(1.) This shows my tire starting to separate. Note: the wide gap on the second groove from the left side of the picture. I'm glad I caught it before it came apart.

(2.) Brand new tire, ready for action. About four years ago my two left Canadian tires developed sidewall bubbles and were replaced with Chinese Marathons. Until today, my right side tires and spare were the original Canadian tires. DOT code of the year 2004, when my trailer was built. Now I have three Chinese tires on the ground. I didn't want to destroy brand new tires on this trip, so new tires will come as needed.

(3.) Infamous cabinet hinge.

(4.) Cure for infamous cabinet door hinge.

Haines, Canada.

Hi, we are now at another scenic campground in Haines, Canada. This is just another over night stop off. The Yukon roads are brutal, [yes, I know I already said that] so traveling takes much longer per mile. This way my gas goes farther per hour. [Does that make sense?] Or takes longer to burn? Today was laundry day again, for things that didn't get done yesterday; Yesterday was Dusty's laundry dilemma. [not his fault] Well, I have two more pictures for you.

Correction.

Hi, I was corrected by DW. We are at Haines Junction, Canada and headed to Haines, Alaska tomorrow. Also the words describing the two pictures in post #482 have become missing in action, so here they are:

(1.) We passed through a small town that was soooo poor that their one and only Cop Car was made out of 3/4" plywood.

(2.) Tonight's scenic campground.

In post #481 the fantastic tool that I used for getting my tire changed is called a "Trailer Aide Plus" [I getting at that forgetful age]

Hi, Gene; All of the Glaciers and Icebergs are melting away and may not be around for future generations to see. As noted earlier, I did get a new tire; I sure didn't want to deal with it, on the side of the road, in Yukon.

Hi, Vinnie. Our Lincoln is doing a great job on this trip; Only our Safari needs a few minor adjustments, now and then. This is a great experience that we shall never forget.

Lucky for your airstream that its owned by Bob..

Bob will spend the next several months tightening and refitting things that have wiggled loose. Cleaning and polishing will take top priority too. This is what we buy them for and Im glad you are using it. Thanks for taking us along!

Bon, there's a good Mexican restaurant in Haines (can't remember the name, of course). Most "Mexican" food in the North Country can best be said to be "Mexican influenced", but this one is for real.

In town is a good local museum, and across the street, the Hammer Museum. Go out of town along the Lynn Canal and you will come to a bridge where people watch bears catching salmon, but I think it is too early for that. There is also a market a couple of blocks from "downtown" (downtown is actually up) with a lot of healthy foods available.

Around the parade ground of the former fort there is a building where they make totem poles and an artist studio that sells native artworks. The hotel (something like Hasselblad, but that's a camera) that is supposed to have good food. We stayed at their funky campground behind the hotel. The hotel has wifi. Haines is an interesting small town with spectacular views.

The Alaska Hwy from north of Haines Jct. to the border is difficult with many frost heaves and pavement breaks. It is memorable, as you know. We've had the drains come apart under the sink too, though not there. Sorry to hear you had the particle board warp. Latches fail, screws back out and I'm always fixing them. Locktite is a good thing.

Day 28.

Hi, today we drove from Haines Junction, Canada to Haines, Alaska. It was only about a 120 mile drive and most of the road was great. First thing after leaving our last camp ground was to tank up the Lincoln. Again we had to cross borders and hope that they wouldn't frisk Dusty. We made into Alaska again. The first camp ground that we picked said that we could only stay for one day because they were booked up and the State Fair was this week end. So we found another camp ground and they had room for us to stay two nights. Then we decided that we were going to stay one night longer, so three nights please. But we want to take another tour and it was almost sold out. And to take this tour, we would have to stay four nights. Can we change it to four nights? Please. Yes, Thank You Thank you. We went to the market for a few things and came home with a dozen. We went to the Hammer Museum, drove around town, went to see the Bears and Eagles too. Lee spotted an Eagle, but the Bears were shy tonight. Maybe we will see the Bears tomorrow while they are in the river catching Salmon. On the way back to our silver home we stopped at another market for a few more things.

Here are four pictures from the Hammer Museum.
