Day three.

Hi, today is actually the beginning of day four, but Wifi wasn't working last night. We left Brigham City, Utah and were headed for the Grand Tetons. It was mostly a nice drive with nice scenery. We made a rest stop at a Lava Bed area. The wind was so strong it almost blew the doors off of my Lincoln. So we stayed there for just a little while. Later my Lincoln got the workout of it's life on the Teton Pass. There was snow everywhere except on the road, but the 10% upgrade followed by the 10% down grade was the first time I was forced to use first gear [low] and drive at 30 MPH or less because of the curves in the road. I stopped on a turn out to chek things out because I was forced to use my brakes more than ever to keep my speed down due to the steep grade. I knew the Lincoln was going to be fine, but I wanted to know how the trailer's drum brakes were doing. My wheels were cold so my brakes were doing just fine. [I love my drum brakes] The first two pictures were taken at Brigham City KOA. The third picture is in Idaho next to the Snake river. The last picture was at the lava beds, Called Hell's Half Acre and the wind was blowing like hell.

Day four.

Hi, today we traveled all through the Great Tetons National Park; We got in free sort-of. Yesterday I bought a Senior Pass. We took in the beautiful scenery and were looking for wild animals. They were all hiding from us. After hiking for a few hours, I was hungry enough to eat a bear. I hope the bear wasn't hungry enough to want to eat me. My Lincoln was in a good mood today since it got to go solo. We did see some deer and bison off in the distance too far for pictures. This is a good time for this trip because the weather is pretty good, but slightly cold for us, and the streets and campgrounds are near empty. The first picture was taken from our campsite and the other three were taken in the park.

Did you follow the Snake River gorge from Idaho up into Wyoming? THAT is a beautiful drive!

I love the yellow diamond warning signs "Watch for Cattle - Open Range"!!!

Godspeed,

No KOAs then.

Bob, I am enjoying your trip so far. We went to the same places in 1969. Sure looks the same. No KOAs back then and we were tent camping, just the two of us. No kids yet.

Day five.

Hi, today we drove to Yellowstone National park. Finally being old pays off; No charge to enter the parks with my senior pass. Today was the first time in my life that I saw a frozen lake, Yellowstone Lake. Tomorrow we are moving to Yellowstone RV Park for three nights. My wife thinks I'm crazy because I drove 100 miles just to see if I could find this park, see if they have room for us, and make reservations face to face instead of over the phone. That's just my way of doing things sometimes. The top two pictures are still in Grand Tetons and you can see most of this lake is frozen. The bottom two pictures our first encounter with a moose; Brian [moosetags are you out there?] Yellowstone has no Wifi unless I can steal some from one of those wealthy campers there. If not, you won't hear from me for a few days.

Hi, it is still cold here and will be for some time. We can handle it during the day, but at night, we Southern California people, aren't used to it. We are really glad that we have the padded interior and smaller windows. Last night our oil filled heater couldn't keep up so I set the furnace to kick on, if necessary, and it was.

We could use some of that cold weather right about now.. Still in the 90* degree range after a very hot day here in Northern Calif. Tomorrow will be even hotter. Great pictures of the lake.. stay warm.

Bob, great photos. I hope you are getting used to cold weather, it makes you a stronger man. Of course, now there's a heat wave, so you may be happier. I'd ask where to next, but I guess you don't know. Were the lava beds at Craters of the Moon NM? Did you go intro the lava tubes—they are interesting and a strange place to be.

Day eight or nine?

Hi, We just pulled into Jim & Mary's RV Park In Missoula, Montana and have our first Wifi connection in four days. We spent the last three days and nights in Yellowstone National Park. We watched Old Faithfull twice and stopped to see vertually everything that was open at this time which was almost everything in this huge park. We saw an Eagle and two Ravens eating a dead deer [we think that is what they were lunching on] and we saw so many Bison createing several traffic jams as they walked very slowly down the middle of the street. There were also many deer all through the park; They also liked to cross the street, but much faster than the Bison. I went to fill the Lincoln with gas, but the power was out in the whole park; About an hour or so later we had power again and my Lincoln had a full stomach and was roaring to go. There are lots of mountain roads all through Yellowstone, but my Lincoln was tested again in the mountains of Montana. [Lincoln still doing well] All trips must have some problems or set backs, so far we only had two; My short TV antenna cable broke. [one end fell off] In my junk box, I just happened to have another one, so now we have TV. There was no TV in Yellowstone so there was no loss at that time. The other Item to fail was my oil filled heater; I will fix that when we get home. Yhe first picture is Old Faithfull in action. The second picture is a few deer in Yellowstone. The third picture is a Raven posing as a hood ornament on someones car. and the fourth picture is one of the thermal pools.
