After spending a day or two provisioning around Cody, if you aren't in a hurry to get to Yellowstone, there are a number of very nice National Forest campgrounds between Wapiti and Yellowstone NP along HWY 14/16. I enjoyed the Wapiti campground. They have electric and non-electric sites right along the North Fork of the Shoshone River.

If you do any hiking or even just strolling around the river banks outside of Cody, be sure to bring bear spray, plus it's a good idea to have some jingle bells. There are signs of bear all over those hills. You learn to spot the signs quite readily after a day or two. Loved it!

Another option, if you aren't in a hurry to get to Yellowstone, is to take a ride along the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (Hwy 296) north/west of Cody. You might want to just park your AS and drive up there, then turn around and enter Yellowstone from 14/16. It's a very scenic drive if you have time.
