Brad, your 3rd picture definitely shows top of skull as dark -- confirming that certainly is not an osprey. BTW - the light underwing of an osprey is a very definite blinding white. No confusing an osprey.

I've seen heron rookeries in pines. There isn't a lot of bowing of branches once they are on stiff enough limbs.

Sticking to the RT hawk ID. Say it again -- nice sighting!

What's a RW hawk? You mean BW hawk?

My goof -- meant red-tailed hawk. Now we'll all be restless at 4:00 AM wondering what a BW hawk might be.

Thanks for pointing that out. Typing on 3 keyboards at once gets me confused...

Hi from GA/AZ. . . looks like an immature red tail hawk to me, definitely not an osprey or a kite. (imo), regards, Craig

Most immature RTs have a loose group of dark feathers across their chest which from a distance form what we call a belly band, something not seen on this bird.
Yes BW stood for Broadwing,I was just curious if that was what you meant.

Brad, it's always fun to figure more out about a bird or animal that makes us a part of their day. For instance, this eagle has been hanging around for the last hour across a small river at the back edge of our lot.

It's always interesting seeing something the size of an Airedale terrier sitting on a branch!

Hmm... thinking about that telephoto I don't have! But that wouldn't fit within the 'Favorite Mod under $100' thread guidelines. Might have to put it on the list for Susie.

Now THAT is funny! It's too late for Thanksgiving but there's always the Christmas meal.

You've heard of Coq au Vin...

... this would be Koko Vin.

That's a nice shot. In focus and large enough to see. Good job!

Definite RT , and because you can distinctly see the barring through the lower side of the tail feathers, it's a juvenile(first year bird). Nice clean shot

I'm really not trying to beat this to death (probably seems that way), but is this the same bird? Seems like a much longer beak. Granted, poor shot.

Also, this other shot seemed like something out of a Hitchcock movie.
