Biggest hail dent?

I don't know about the rest of you, but we had an incredible storm that dropped lots of golf-ball sized hail and some that were literally the size of "nerf" footballs! Check out this platter-sized dent and let me know if this is a record!

The good news - about 6-7 golf-ball sized dents on the upper roof, and this huge dent actually pulled out quite well with an autobody suction cup dent puller. Others had it much worse.

Yeeouch! That's a big one. I know there's a hailstorm out there with my number on it. We're all going to get it some day. Glad it pulled out halfway okay.

After pulling out dent.

Here's the area after the dent has been pulled. Not perfect, but I didn't feel it was worth an insurance claim.

You can't talk hail without recalling the 1993 International Rally in Bismark, ND. Larry Huttle had just ended his talk telling us that Airstream was changing the metallic mix in the skin but, not to worry because Airstream had sufficient supplies of all the old skins in it's warehouse. lol. Then, down came the punishing hail storm with up to softball size hail stones extensively damaging over 2500 Airstreams and many tow vehicles. By noon the next day every Airstream dealer in the US was booked until Christmas to repair these trailers. The older the trailer, the less damage to the skin. Because, the older trailers had real aluminum -- the newer ones had metallic mix. However, the older trailers took more damage to the AC covers, vent covers, etc. having more brittle plastic than the newer ones. The next day was like the day after any natural disaster -- everyone helping each other, locals volunteering their homes to WBCCI members. It was quite an experience. Oh yeah, your dent is not a record but, it was a good one -- nice job with the puller !

That was a big on alright. Does sheer quantity count? Some of mine are almost that big.

The story I was told was that it was towed through a hailstorm. Maybe sometime in the future I'll replace the panels. Just can't afford it right now. It's cosmetic, no leaks. The rest of the Airstream is very nice.

Hi Kevin,
When we heard about the big hail storm that went through Waskesiu, we immediately thought of you. We were hoping that you weren't there at the time. I guess not. Too bad! So sorry to hear about the damage, but your repair looks great. Here's hoping for the rest of the summer to be uneventful.

I remember that happening! We weren't there, but a friend that lived in Bismarck that I was in contact with via a BBS message forum (sort of a precursor to today's Internet forums) told me about it - I got word of it a couple days after it had happened.

Strangely enough it seems like many club members don't remember it now, or they've intentionally forgotten it.
