Big Trip Starts Tomorrow Morning

Tomorrow morning at about 5:30 we will begin our big trip that will take us to Chicago and Nashville for college visits and then on to the Grand Canyon, Utah and Colorado. I'm heading home from work in about an hour to put the finishing touches on packing. The truck is ready and packed and we just have to finish loading clothes on the AS!! I want to thank all of you who helped us get ready with lists, route advice etc especially BillTex, he knows why. I think we have it all together. If not then we'll have to do without. We are very excited and will do our best to keep you up to date with our progress. If you see a 27 foot Airstream being pulled by a big red Avalanche give us a wave. C-ya......

Have a really super Airstream adventure. You're going to be seeing some great country. We'll need to see regular reports with pictures, of course. We want to see a picture of the World's Largest Ball of Twine, and be sure not to miss the 35' Superman statue in Metropolis, Illinois.

Safe Travels,
Brian

Have a safe and great trip and may you find all the lowest gas prices around

And for you National Lampoon Vacation fans out there...Don't forget to stop at the house of mud. "Dad they didn't use mud, they used sod." "That's right Audrey and when they ran out of sod they used mud."

Ummm...I'm not so sure about Chicago, Nashville & Utah, but we do have these things called "stores"here in Colorado!

Seriously, have a great trip and wave when you go by ~

Ok here's an update....where to start?? Well first let me apologize for the long delay. Been on the road since Sunday morn and we haven't run into any wifi until today. Our first leg was from home to Ohio and my first impression towing that far {previous experience about 2 total hrs} was I couldn't believe how little I felt our baby back there. The push from truck traffic is so much more subtle than driving the MH. We were quite nervous at the beginning and we stopped several times to walk around and make sure all was well. Got to OH and wanted to check the torque on the lugnuts but discovered I had the wrong socket, damn! but have no fear because our very nice neighbor in the camp ground came to help. {I picked up the right one later}. Overall I couldn't believe how well we had done. The Avalanche is a towing beast with it's 8.1 litre!! It has had no problems. I just set the cruise at 62-63 and it was smooth sailing. All systems on the AS worked perfectly, no problems yet. I expect there will be but so far... The second leg took us to Indiana and Indiana Dunes State Park. Nice place and we had easy access to the train that took us to Chicago to visit a college for our son. Chicago was awesome, he loved it and Indiana Dunes was a nice stop. The beach area on Lake Michigan was cool!! From there we drove to Nashville for another college visit, that's where we are now. We're at a campground called Two Rivers. It's nice enough but in a very busy area. For our purpose here it was very convenient and right next to a Camping World, Ouch I spent too much. The college visit went well and tomorrow we're off to start our "vacation" portion of the trip. Got the business part done now it's off to the Grand Canyon!!. A couple of side notes..bought a Thule bike rack for the roof of the Avalanche right before leaving in fact I installed it the night before and it's working out great. Also picked up a Garmin Nuvi 660 a week before leaving and that thing is awesome!! It saved our butts a few times particularly while going into Nashville for the visit. The thing works like a charm. Have been keeping an eye out for fellow streamers and have seen 3 on the road and 2 in campgrounds. One here in Nashville. I looked up the red numbers in the WBCCI book and they were here from Texas. We never got to meet them as they were gone when we came back today. Oh well we will keep looking. I will get some pics up as soon as I buy a card reader because I left mine at home. You gotta see this big red Avie with the bike on top and the Safari in tow heading down the road.. Will be in touch soon.........

Trip update

We're in New Mexico tonight after traveling from Arkansas through Oklahoma and a piece of Texas. The overnight stay in Ark was a little touchy. The place we stayed was called Park Ridge and it was one of those places that all the sites were permanent and the trailers were all old and unkept. We were up and out of there early. The drive across OK and TX was pretty uneventful except for the high wind T-storm right before arriving in Tucumcari. It got pretty dark and then the winds went nuts and rain like crazy for about 30 mins and then it clear. It was a little intense. We are staying at the KOA on Quay Road AL in Tucumcari and it is awesome. Most overnighters are usually just ok but this place isn't only very clean and right off interstate 40 it's run by some of the nicest people we've met. And check this out...They prepare dinner specials and deliver them to your site!! It was pretty awesome after driving all day and setting up to look up and have a great meatloaf dinner being delivered to us. The kids had the pizza and it was all very good. Tomorrow am we'll have the breakfast specials delivered to our site before heading out to Williams,AZ

I almost forgot the best part. When we pulled in there was another stream here and they parked us right next to them. Turns out they are on there way to Bozeman. They're from Georgia and are traveling with friends to the rally. It was nice to pull in and see a "familiar" face.

Thanks for sharing. Feels a bit like we're along for the ride except for not pitching in for gas. The Grand canyon is on our To Do list.

Wish I had known you were pulling through Oklahoma. Would have come down to I-40 and waved at you. Have a safe trip.

Hey Brian,

Sorry I missed you on your swing through Arkansas...stop by on your way home...we have much nicer parks around here than what you stayed at the other night...what city was that near?
