We're sitting in the customer lounge @ Airstream waiting for our baby to be finished. We have a short list that hopefully will be done today. I think it might take us into tomorrow but we'll see. I showed them the corrosion starting on all 4 wheels and along the belt line. They said they would check with the warranty coordinator and get back to me. I'll let you know what they say....
Thanks Bob and Sandra, it was a great trip. Now we're a little anxious to get this work done and get home. Our kids are ready to be home. Donna and I on the other hand could go longer!!!

Brian,

I just took ours in for warranty work in Denver and had corrosion on the chrome strip at the bottom of the body—what you call the "belt line" I think. They replaced it with no questions though they did refuse a few other things claiming I should have seen them on the walk through. A letter will go to A/S on those tomorrow. My wheels are fine as is the body, so far.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip. Fly the kids home and keep traveling!

Watch out for all those goodies in the gift shop. So tempting. We came home with A/S Xmas tree lights (up on one of the logs in our house) and a very expensive 75th anniversary A/S book. At least we kept it under $100.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your trip. We went for three weeks last September. We made the "big loop" and most of the same stops that you did, only we had considerable cooler temps . We too loved Zion, Watchman campground was the best! We really loved Canyonlands (kind of a quieter Grand Canyon). We stayed at Arch View while there in Moab. No bugs . Monument Valley was a hoot, campground not anything to write home about. Our kids sound like they are younger than yours, so they did OK, they did kiss the ground when we finally got home though. Your children will remember this trip for the rest of their lives, and I'll bet they will plan one just like it when they are parents too. Thanks again for sharing and letting me re-live our trip through you.

Gene,
We kept the $$ in the gift shop under control. What I mean by belt line is the rivet line going right down the sides about half way up where there is a molding on Classics. Will be here until tomorrow and we'll see what there answer is.......

It's been fun for us all Brian..

We are so looking forward to this weekend when "our mountain" adventure
begins. It will probably only be a 1k trip, but we're going to one of our favorite Campsites in the Adirondacks, boondock'n for 10 sweet days. Look'n forward to drown'n some worms, and some lax'n times around the campfire.

Thumbs up Factory service

After a day and a half at the factory getting service I must say I have slightly mixed feelings. For the most part the technician that worked on our AS,{Dan} was very good. He was great to deal with and he worked hard. We had a list of things ranging from corrosion to window leaks to a cabinet door falling off to etc. Dan spent alot of time with each of our concerns and fixed everything. There was alot of adjustments made to windows, the entry door and the front compartment door which should've been right from the start. It doesn't matter now because they are all much better. I had them replace my maintenance batteries with AGM's and had a second sewer hose storage tube put in. The price was good and the labor time charged was probably a little light. We had seperation in our bathroom between the wall and the counter top and Dan made a support for inside the cabinet and rescrewed it so it was tight again and it won't move. Once he recaulked it it looked perfect. Like I said he was very detailed and obviously cared about satisfying us. The only small complaint we have is the recaulking job on the shower could have been done better. Our real disappointment comes in the area of corrosion and their unwillingness to cover it. We have it on our wheels and starting along the belt line. They told me it wasn't covered and when I requested to speak to the warranty administrator he again said it wasn't covered but I should use corrosion x to stop it . He explained how it works and then changed the subject. Although I wasn't happy I let it go because I don't think there is a fix . I had him put in writing that that is there official suggestion for me which he did with vague language so we'll see where it goes from here. Overall I have to say that we're happy.
We're in NY tonight and will be home tomorrow. Yup that's it, the big trip is over. I'll get the pics up in a couple of days and then we'll start planning for next year's. Thanks for coming along for the ride....

Airstream= ???

Brian,

Know how ya feel about the corrosion problem, been there done that.
Like everyone else, it just drives me crazy. Been polishing with the Dremmel tool and covering with automotive touch-up clear in the little bottle's, great solution a-what. Lucky on our wheels though so far they are clean, but do take 'em off for Winter storage. K.O.W.

Glad you made it home safe, if you saw the eight wind turbines at the Eastern end of Lake Erie you were within five miles of the "Frantic Banana".

Hi Brian - I've really enjoyed your thread and glad to hear that you got home OK and had a great trip. We're at Dead Horse now - we've been here all week staying at Dead Horse SP. We're headed out today. We really enjoyed Arches and Canyonlands. Our next stop is Cortez CO and Mesa Verde. We'll be there for a couple of days the back home. Jim

Thanks Jim. The Cortez KOA was close to Mesa Verde Nat Park and nice. You can drive out to 4 corners from there too. Enjoy. Wasn't Arches awesome?! I know I said I'd get some pics up but work has been slammin'. I promise I'll get some up soon.

Yup... Arches, Canyonlands and DHP were all awesome! We stayed at the campgrounds at Dead Horse Point. The campsites were really nice - pretty private too. They all had 20-30-50 amp hookups. We had a great sunset view over the canyon edge. We're definitely going back again next year.

We're in Cortez now. We're staying at Sundance RV Park. It's nice but it's still an RV park. It's a parking lot full of big-mother class As. I feel dwarfed!

We're getting ready to go out for breakfast then to Mesa Verde. We went to Monument Vally last summer so we'll pass on this trip. Back home tomorrow.

Living in the Southwest is great! All this cool stuff is in our back yard and there's usually no traffic! Four hours of driving tomorrow and we'll be home. Next time you're out this way let us know and we can get a caravan going with some other Southwestern Airstreamers.

I hope to post some pics too - possibly next week sometime.

Jim
