Best route from Redwoods area to Reno??

We will be finishing our month long road trip with a much anticipated visit to the Redwoods. We need suggestions on best route from that area to I-80 at Reno for the trip home. I see 299 to Redding then 44 to 395 to Reno. Would love any suggestions.

Thats a great route with no snow in the high country. Looping around Lassen National park. Manzanita lake makes a nice stop over. None of the grades are too extreme.
If you wanted to pass through lake tahoe then 299 to 5 to 99 through chico. 70 through Oroville. You can bypass Marysville by taking Ramirez Lane to Mathews Lane to Woodson Rd over to 20. Up 20 to 80.

Your route dilemma sounds the same as ours last year. From Cresent City we went north on 199 to Grants Pass, then I-5 south to Mt Shasta. Off the interstate (yea) and drove 89, then 44 to Susanville. Finally 395 into Reno. Watch for high winds on 395.

I think we're going to try this route. Thanks!

Just be careful of speed coming back into California on 5. Performance awards are handed out regularly to those coming down that hill too fast. Radar Speed trap near the bottom almost every day. 55 is the legal limit towing in CA.

Thanks for the heads-up on radar on 5!

That is the exact route we took. 199 to Grants Pass was a bit tricky but the rest from there to Reno was a nice drive. Glad you recommended it!
